Island Health’s Department of Cardiology has an opportunity for a full time Cardiologist with Cardiac Device implant specialty training to join an existing cardiologist and a group of dedicated cardiac internists and intensivists at NRGH to establish a Heart Health Division in Nanaimo, which will be part of a well-established 20 member Division of Cardiology in Victoria.
Eligible applicants must hold Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Cardiology and demonstrate competency in all aspects of cardiology. The successful candidate will have obligations including coverage of both coronary care unit and cardiology wards. On call responsibilities are for Cardiology on Call coverage only. Responsibilities include device implantation and clinical oversight/management of patients in the local Pacemaker Clinic. Additional training if required to develop device management expertise available through the affiliated electrophysiology and device management group at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria.
Academic affiliation and teaching opportunities are available through the University of British Columbia, Island Medical Program. This practice exists within a rich environment with learners ranging from medical students to fellows.
