Overview:
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Production Supervisor will be responsible for managing, coordinating and motivating batching, filling and maintenance teams while ensuring a high level of safety, quality and conformance to schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
• Direct and lead the Batching, Filling and Maintenance teams. • Make sure that the entire plant staff follows all safety policies and procedures as outlined in the company internal policies and OHSA requirements. Report any hazards and unsafe conditions to the Company Management in a timely manner. • Oversee the performance of the entire plant, including, batching, filling lines making sure that the plant meets all the KPIs and standards (i.e. batches per shift, bottles per minute, number of rejects, in-process checks, unplanned DT etc.). • Make sure that all equipment pre-start up checks, start up, change-over, CIP and Sanitation on the batching equipment as well filling lines machinery is done in a timely manner. • Make sure that batchers are following standard recipes making sure that batches are within applicable specifications and meet all quality standards. Any deviations are reported to QA and Upper Management in a timely manner. • Responsible for safe and efficient operation of the filling line machinery, ensuring that the labels and other printed materials are correct, as well as the date code, lot number and any other applicable information are correct. • Responsible for ensuring the fill weights are correct for the type of the product filled as per requirements of the current specifications, bottle caps torque is at required level and that all other final product attributes are within specification through hourly in-process checks. • Maintain strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). • Ensure accurate record keeping as per requirements of current SOPs, GMP and GDP. • Always be fully conversant with the weekly Production Schedule. Manufacture in strict adherence to the production schedule. • Manage employee attendance and vacation time to ensure that all departments are properly staffed. • Coordinate scheduled works with all outside contractors and ensure that work is completed in a safe manner that complies with all necessary manufacturing codes, regulations, and standards i.e. H&S, GMP's, HACCP, WHMIS, MSDS. • Effectively communicate daily maintenance activities to the Upper Management, Quality, Supply chain, Manufacturing staff etc. • Participate as an active member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee. • Improve and maintain existing Preventative Maintenance systems. Make sure that all PM activities are completed in a timely manner. • Initiate and actively participate in various Continuous Improvement activities. • Assist senior management with establishing and implementing operating and capital budgets; ensure maintenance operates within budget parameters. • Training and development of production & maintenance staff using continuous improvement methods. • Attend and actively participate in a weekly supervisory meetings. • Other tasks and projects as assigned by the Company Management.
Qualifications:
• Educational background in a chemical, industrial or mechanical engineering (diploma or degree) is an asset. • Strong leader with people motivational and development skills. • Minimum of five (5) years experience working in a related position within the personal/household care, food/ beverage, pharmaceutical or chemical industry is required. • Strong knowledge of OHSA, GMP and GDP rules and regulations. • Excellent interpersonal skills along with strong written, and verbal communication skills. • Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, including understanding of PLC principles. • Strong understanding of ERP/MRP principles. • Progressive approach to maintenance and process improvement. • Strong knowledge of MS Office suite. • Ability to prioritize, plan and schedule work effectively with a manufacturing team in a fast paced and values driven environment. • Other duties as assigned.
