THE POSITION
The Field of Play Technician will report into the Field of Play Supervisor and is responsible for maintaining our field of plays, including ice surfaces and lacrosse turf to meet all NHL and NLL standards, while operating as a working member of our Building Operations team.
The Field of Play Technician will participate in all tasks relating to the set-up, maintenance, and presentation of all playing surfaces and technical areas, i.e. locker rooms, gyms, shooting cages, within the Scotiabank Saddledome (and then Scotia Place). They will play a key role in ensuring all sporting surfaces, facilities and equipment are presented to a high standard and in line with governing body and any other regulatory requirements. The position ensures that equipment, maintenance and operational tasks are properly and safely performed to guarantee a successful and safe execution of events at the Scotiabank Saddledome (and then Scotia Place). The Field of Play Technician will also support other teams within the department such as, but not limited to, Engineering and Conversions, supporting in maintenance and event setting up duties.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Supports the Supervisor and Manager, Field of Play in the maintenance, and compliance of all playing surfaces.

Install and maintain the ice surface to regulatory standards
-
Record and maintain accurate equipment readings.
-
Maintain all “Field of Play” components
-
Ice Quality Control: Regularly inspect and maintain ice quality, ensuring it is safe and suitable for skating.
-
Facility Maintenance: Repair and maintain ice rink facilities, including changing rooms, seating, and safety barriers.
-
Operate and maintain equipment, such as ice resurfacers and edgers as required.
-
Temperature and Humidity Management: Monitor and adjust temperature and humidity controls to maintain the right conditions for the ice.

Maintain Ice making R/O water system.
-
Event Preparation: Prepare the ice rink for games, events, or practice sessions, which may involve setting up goals, markings, and barriers.

Refrigeration Systems: Perform routine checks and maintenance on refrigeration and ice-making systems.

Safety Compliance: Address any safety concerns promptly and take necessary preventive measures.

Assist the Engineering and Conversion team with maintenance and event set up tasks
-
Operate equipment such as forklifts, bobcats, floor scrubbers, etc.

Use Building Preventative Maintenance software (24/7) to create work orders and schedule preventative maintenance.

Monitor BMS software and interpret data to perform Field of Play tasks
-
Contribute to the development of a team-based culture with a focus on Fan Experience, operational efficiencies, and a safe work environment.

Active participation in the Safety Program and follow all safety rules.

All other duties as assigned.
THE INDIVIDUAL
The ideal individual will have the following background:

Minimum 3 years experience with operating ice resurfacers
-
Highly organized and able to meet deadlines;
-
Ability to handle multiple tasks at once and prioritize effectively;
-
Positive attitude with a strong attention to detail
-
Exceptional communication skills;
-
Ability to work a flexible schedule;
CERTIFICATIONS
-
4th Class Power Engineer Certificate considered an asset;
-
AARFP Arena 1&2 or equivalent
-
An active driver’s license is required
-
High school diploma is considered an asset
-
First aid certificate is considered an asset
