Recreation Program Supervisor
West Park Long Term Care Centre
Temporary Full Time, 75 hours Bi-Weekly
Candidates are invited to apply for the Fullo Time position of Program Supervisor and Coordinator at our 200 bed managed home located in Toronto, Ontario called West Park LTC. Applicants must be willing to work some irregular hours, evenings and weekends. The Program Supervisor and Coordinator acts as a supporting role to the Resident Programs Manager and registered staff by providing Non-Pharmacological based interventions. Strong emphasis on Therapeutic Montessori programs will be used in a multi-disciplinary team environment approach.
Duties include but not limited to:

Ensures programs are running on time, supplies are in stock, helps to assist with special events. Facilitates daily recreation check in with staff to ensure job duties are being followed and that documentation such as MDS is being completed.

Supervision and back up delivery of resident programming, assist with poster and calendar creation, completion of program auditing and other audits as needed.

To assist with the maintenance of appropriate department records including assessments, evaluation of planned programs and charting such as: care planning, MDS, Point Click Care, and Activity Pro

Ability to balance ongoing projects that align with strategic plans; such as palliative care LEAP program, Motitech, high risk residents, pain management groups, My Wishes initiatives, volunteer and student recruitment, restorative care, falls and restraint reduction programs.

Participates in meetings related to resident care such as Care conferences, and other formal and informal meetings regarding the well-being of residents as required.

Manages, facilitates, and evaluates Recreation/Montessori Approach programs that are provided for residents throughout the facility. Including but not limited to Sun downing program, Montessori, and responsive behavior initiative programs. Establishes and improve non pharmacological intervention/strategies for responsive behaviors.

Develops Montessori-based resources that can be implemented such as wayfinding signs, self directed activity instructions, and ADL/Communication guides.

Facilitates and provides educational information and strategies to help promote understanding of Dementiability, GPA, responsive behaviors and the progress of dementia to staff, caregivers and families.

Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
-
Proof of successful completion of a degree or diploma preferred in Recreation Therapy, Montessori Coach/Instructor, Social Services Worker Gerontology or other related field

Behavior modification training or application considered an asset
-
Strong working familiarity with implementing Montessori
-
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent documentation skills
-
Knowledge and demonstrated experience in one-one/group program planning, implementation and evaluation for both well and the cognitively impaired.

Ability to work independently and ability to manage time effectively.

Current CPR and Emergency First Aide & Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check / VSS within 6 months
