About the role

Heartland Housing Foundation serves over 900 households in Fort Saskatchewan & Strathcona County as a not-for-profit housing management body and the administrators for provincially funded rent supplement programs. We operate 12 properties, including affordable lodges, rent-geared-to-income seniors housing, and near market housing for all ages.

Heartland Housing Foundation actively advocates for expanded access to affordable housing in the region, and is a member of several national, provincial, and regional affordable housing associations and working groups.

Hours

  • 4:00pm - 7:30pm
  • 4 days on, 4 days off rotation schedule, including weekends and holidays
  • 24.5 hours per pay period (every 2 weeks)

Pay

  • Competitive pay, starting at $19.08 per hour
  • Shift differentials and shift premiums are available based on your scheduled shifts and hours

  • Located at Silver Birch Haven. 910 Bison Way, Sherwood Park AB
  • On-Site parking available for all employees

Position Overview

As a Dining Room Attendant, you'll be at the forefront of our Food Services team, delivering top-notch customer service to residents. Your main role involves ensuring meal service runs smoothly, this includes maintaining a clean dining area, setting tables, and serving food to our residents. Your dedication to providing prompt and efficient service will ensure a positive dining experience for all. Responsibilities

Dining Room Service

  • Prepare Dining Room: Set tables and prepare condiments and beverages, ensuring equipment readiness for meal service.
  • Provide Meal Service: Support residents by describing menu options, taking orders, and serving food and beverages according to guidelines.
  • Greet Residents: Welcome residents, conduct wellness checks, and follow up on absent residents with housekeeping.
  • Monitor and Replenish: Keep track of food levels during meals and snacks, replenishing as necessary throughout the day.
  • Clean and Sanitize: Ensure dining room cleanliness post-service, including tables, chairs, equipment, and floors.
  • Dishwashing and Assistance: Clean and sort dishes, utensils, etc., by handwashing or using the dishwasher as needed, assisting other dining room and kitchen staff.

Health, Safety, and Environmental Stewardship:

  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and promote a culture of safety within the organization.
  • Cleanliness and Hygiene: Maintain a clean and sanitary work area, adhering to health standards at all times.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to emergencies promptly, documenting incidents and ensuring follow-up actions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma is preferred
  • One (1) year of previous experience in a customer service and/or food service environment is preferred
  • Strong desire to work in senior’s housing
  • Completion of a current and acceptable criminal records check for the vulnerable sector as required by the Protection for Persons in Care Act and the Accommodation Standards and Licensing Act is mandatory
  • Attainment of a Food Safety Certificate is required
  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and internet usage is preferred
  • First Aid and CPR certification may be required

Working Conditions

  • Ongoing customer service interaction and communication with staff, site residents and visitors
  • Physical activity involving walking, standing, bending and lifting
  • Must be able to lift, push and pull equipment and supplies in accordance with the position’s Physical Demands Analysis document
  • Operation of food services/kitchen equipment is required
  • Must handle and work with various cleaning solvents and chemicals
  • Shifts may change according to organizational needs and occasional overtime may be required
  • Occasional exposure to unpleasant or abusive individuals
