JOB POSTING - CHIEF ATAHM SCHOOL BUS DRIVER (1) POSITION

DEPARTMENT: Chief Atahm School
POSITION/TITLE: CAS Bus Driver

NATURE & SCOPE OF WORK:
Chief Atahm School is seeking a Bus Driver to work under the direction of the Adams Lake Band’s Vice Principal. The individual’s main responsibilities will be maintaining, cleaning and driving the Bus for the Adams Lake Indian Band. Under the minimal supervision of the Public Works Department with the Adams Lake Indian Band, the incumbent is responsible for safely transporting students over assigned routes and for reporting any accidents or mechanical failures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Adams Lake Indian Band policies and procedures
  • Operates a School Bus to safely transport students over assigned routes including field trips
  • Maintains bus in proper operating condition, according to the Department of Transportation guidelines.
  • Operates the bus & maintains trip records according to established policies and procedures.
  • Performs routine mechanical repairs and service.
  • Provides good public relations and greeting services to the children, public and staff.
  • Maintains and orders an adequate inventory of cleaning supplies.
  • Maintains the work area in a clean and professional manner.
  • Answers inquiries, complaints, and concerns, providing information as required.
  • Performs pre-trip inspection prior to departure & secures bus upon completion of route
  • Keep a log of extra trips taken.
  • Reports mechanical failures and accidents to appropriate supervisor.
  • May be required to assist physically and mentally handicap students when transporting them
  • Maintains appropriate behaviour and completes discipline reports on appropriate students.
  • Performs other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS

  • Minimum of Grade 12 education
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationship with public, parents, students, school district employees and band employees.
  • Ability to operate a school bus and adhere to all safety and traffic regulations.
  • Ability to maintain discipline on a school bus.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Self motivated and initiative are mandatory because of general supervision.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Flexibility is a must to adapt to changing work priorities.
  • Good judgement, reliability and dependability must be always exercised.
  • Must be physically capable of performing all duties of the position
  • Knowledge of the mechanical operations of a School Bus
  • Knowledge of disciplinary limitations and regulations regarding children

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Ability to maintain discipline on a school bus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Bus driving, Assisting physically and mentally handicapped people

WORKING CONDITIONS
Most of the work is performed in a typical school bus driver position. Weather conditions while driving the bus.

EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE
Radio, GPS if necessary, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and other safety equipment should be checked regularly.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Level 1 First Aid
Valid Class 2 BC Driver’s License w/ Air Brake Endorsement
Adequate vehicle business insurance
Annually pass medical examination

BONE FIDE JOB REQUIREMENTS
Current Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector clearance, with results acceptable to ALIB

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Full time position – term Start date: August 25, 2025 End date: June 19, 2026
Wage range: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour based on education and experience.
Hours per week: 50 hours biweekly (max 25 hrs./week)
