Position: Clinical Counsellor - Contract

Location: Community (Lower Mainland)

Hours: 5-7 hours/week

Salary: $41.20/hour

Start Date: August 1, 2025

End Date: March 31, 2026 (with the possibility of extension)

We are accepting applications for a Contract Clinical Counsellor to provide both individual and group counselling to men dealing with issues of violence and abuse. This individual must be a Registered Clinical Counsellor with BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. This individual should have a strong history of being able to work autonomously as well as experience in co-facilitation in group counselling.

Due to the nature of the program and the population served, this position requires a male-identifying Clinical Counsellor to provide culturally and experientially appropriate support.

Description of Position:
Responsible to: Manager of Trauma Counselling

Responsibilities:

  • Provides individual intake, assessment, and mid-range counselling to men experiencing/perpetrating the effects of relationship violence, sexual assault, and/or historic abuse while incorporating an intersectional decolonization perspective and following Stopping the Violence program standards.
  • Provides direct counselling on an individual and group basis to men from the community. Group counselling is a co-facilitation model based on the MenTOR program.
  • Incorporates the central components of trauma counselling, emphasizing safety and containment and, when safe to do so, processing the trauma.
  • Reports complaints and critical incidents to the appropriate levels of authority, whether internal or external, to the agency and documents actions concerning safety assessment and planning.
  • Maintains up-to-date confidential client files on Sharevision/OWL, ensuring that information is documented in a way that reduces the possibility of the data being used in a prejudicial manner against the client. Client files include intake records, safety plans (when required), limits of confidentiality, consent forms, session notes, therapy plans, PQI notes and other relevant documents.
  • Attends and participates in scheduled external counselling consultations. Uses internal support/debriefing and internal FIT supervision as needed or as required.
  • Upholds Sources and the STV standards to ensure the provision of a high-quality service.
  • Attends and participates in clinical consultation as scheduled.
  • Provides advocacy/presentations for men on an as-needed/as-wanted basis.
  • Familiarizes self with referring bodies, addresses client’s needs, and outreach to other Sources programs, external agencies, and organizations.
  • Keeps up-to-date confidential client statistics and invoices, including group records reported monthly.

Qualifications:

  • M.A., M.Ed., M.S.W. (Counselling Psychology) or the equivalency of a combination of education, training, and life experience.
  • Current certification through BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with men who have or are experiencing abuse.
  • Education and training in individual and group intersectional counselling skills.
  • Cultural diversity and equity knowledge and focus on Indigenous reconciliation and reparation and decolonization practices.
  • Knowledge of dynamics associated with abuse and demonstrated ability to incorporate the components of trauma counselling into her counselling practice.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of men’s issues from an intersectional, decolonization perspective.
  • Knowledge and understanding of how a man’s race, social and economic status, religion, sexual orientation, marginalization, oppression, and intersectionality may affect their functioning in mainstream society.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; and interpersonal skills.
  • Clear criminal record check.
