About the role
Position Summary
The Aquatarium at Tall Ships Landing is a 27 000ft2 not-for-profit interactive science and educational facility whose mission is to inspire curiosity through enriching and entertaining experiences in the Thousand Islands. Successful candidates will be trained to successfully and efficiently take lead in creating these memorable experiences for guests in various areas of the facility.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Encouraging guests to try the course during low times, by interacting and showing guests how to have fun.
- Work with all staff and management for the Rope Course/AquaDrop and ensure proper safety protocols are followed.
- Work with the Experiences Coordinator and Team Lead to ensure that all maintenance checks are completed as per industry specifications.
- Bring any safety concerns to the Experiences Coordinator or Team Lead immediately.
- Responsible for completing equipment safety checks and ensuring checklist is up to date and accurate.
- Complete rescue practice and ensure competency when all practices have been completed.
- Be physically able to perform repelling rescues as high as four stories
- Responsible for the safety and security of guests on a four story high ropes course and AquaDrop.
- Must be friendly yet able to give specific safety directions to guests of all ages
- Follow all health and safety regulations, ensuring course Health & Safety rules and regulations are adhered to.
- Work as a team member with fellow staff.
- Perform other duties, as required.
Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must have no fear of heights.
- Must have at least 2 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine
- Exceptional leadership, people, and performance skills.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have or be able to obtain a valid Standard First Aid Certificate.
- Must be comfortable stooping, kneeling, crouching, sitting, pulling, jumping and twisting.
- Must be able to wear a safety harness for long periods of time.
- Must fall within height and weight limits of the course.
- Clean Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector check.
- Must be able to lift 75lbs.
- Professionalism, enthusiasm, and initiative are essential.
- Candidates must be available to work flexible hours including weekends.
Interview and Hiring Process
To ensure that all staff hired for the ropes course are able to perform the required duties, a multi-stage interview process will be required. The first stage will be a face-to-face interview and a brief test on the ropes course. The second stage will be a group ropes course test of all successful candidates, ensuring full capability on the course and testing relevant skills.
Job Types: Part-time, Seasonal
Pay: $17.20 per hour
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Day shift
- Weekends as needed
