The purpose of this position is to provide clerical, merchandising, and cashier services, and to assist with sales promotion in a government liquor outlet in a manner which complies with all provincial regulations. This position will normally include evening and weekend work and may require supervision of the facility during the absence of the manager and senior clerk.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Process transactions via a computerized point-of-sale system in an accurate and timely fashion while providing excellent customer service.
  • Balance cash float prior to the start of shift.
  • Sign onto the register and bank terminal.
  • Process sales transactions in an accurate and timely fashion.
  • Receive, store, and continuously display products to make all products available to customers, reduce waste, and optimize all marketing initiatives.
  • Operate various types of material handling equipment to unload products from transport containers and trucks.
  • De-palletize liquor loads and reconcile products received with bills of lading.
  • Ensure all products are stored in an organized and safe fashion while ensuring easy accessibility for continuous merchandising.
  • Monitor retail area for under-aged individuals.
  • Monitor retail area for intoxicated individuals.
  • Maintain surveillance in the retail area for potential problems (e.g. theft, hazards, etc.).
  • Perform supervisory duties on a short-term basis in the absence of the store manager and senior clerk.
  • Assist with the training of new staff in retail procedures.
  • Occasionally oversee operation of facility in absence of manager and senior clerk.
  • Provide administrative support to store management in the day-to-day operation of the store.
  • Perform daily cycle counts.
  • Assist in preparing licensee orders and special permits.
  • Assist with the ordering of sundry supplies.
  • Perform daily and intermittent cleaning and maintenance tasks.
  • Sweep and scrub floors in retail and warehouse area daily.
  • Collect garbage in office, retail area, and warehouse daily.
  • Perform all duties at the standard expected of PEILCC management and in a manner that is continuously aligned with PEILCC goals and objectives.
  • Present a positive image for PEI Liquor Control Commission.
  • Deal courteously and tactfully with the public and assist customers in a helpful and friendly manner with purchases and/or inquiries.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other stores and head office.
  • Other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of the Wine & Spirit Educational Trust Level 2 Award.
  • Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered
  • Considerable, recent experience in retail sales (e.g. providing customer service, using a computerize Point-of-Sale terminal, merchandising, etc.), preferably dealing with beverage alcohol.
  • Recent experience supervising, preferably in a retail environment (e.g. balancing cashier tills & daily business receipts, preparing bank deposits, entering data into financial management system, troubleshooting minor computer problems, opening/closing facility, etc.), preferably dealing with beverage alcohol.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting packaged merchandise weighing up to 20KG for continuous periods.
  • Must be capable of safely operating various types of material handling equipment.
  • Knowledge of legislative and policy framework that governs the operation of the PEILCC retail store.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new procedures quickly and easily.

Other Qualifications:

  • Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.
  • Evening and weekend work is required in this position.
