The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Superannuation Commission provides pension and benefit administrative services to the teachers of Saskatchewan. The commission is seeking an organized, highly motivated, responsible, and reliable individual to provide benefit and payroll support in the Pension and Benefit Programs area.
In this challenging position, you will be responsible for keying all financial changes for the monthly benefit payroll. Duties include the maintenance of electronic deposits and cheques using electronic payment manager software. As well, the candidate is required to prepare correspondence, calculate benefit payments and adjustments such as marriage breakdowns and reciprocal transfers, being detail-oriented to ensure accuracy of payment calculations. You will generate monthly payroll reports and assist in the preparation of annual information using various types of software such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and customized Oracle-based in-house systems. In this position, you will share responsibility for being one of the first points of contact in the branch, which requires a tactful response to teachers’ requests for information and directing them to the appropriate staff member who can assist with the enquiry. You will also share responsibility for providing administrative support in the Teachers’ Dental Plan and the Teachers’ Group Life Insurance Plan.
In addition, the candidate will be required to tactfully respond verbally and in writing with pensioners and active teachers to explain payroll calculations and policies. The ideal candidate will be approachable, cooperative, patient, and understanding when dealing with clients.
Typically, the knowledge required for this position would be obtained through a one-year diploma in business administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Pension Plan Administrator Certificate (PPAC) or the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) will be an asset.
