Scope

As an Information Technology Architect, you will operate with significant autonomy while contributing to a collaborative team environment. You’ll help define and guide the architectural vision for corporate applications, platforms, and services supported by IT. Your work will shape the City’s technology direction through secure, innovative, and resilient solutions that balance reliability with future-readiness.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with IT staff, vendors, manufacturers, analysts, and business stakeholders to define technology strategies, identify dependencies, establish standards and roadmaps, and champion their adoption and ongoing maintenance of these across the organization

Act as a trusted advisor across departments—providing both strategic guidance and practical recommendations on technology solutions and business methods to enable and deliver business capabilities

Lead or coordinate small teams on complex projects—organizing and planning work assignments while ensuring objectives and deadlines are met for enterprise-scale initiatives

Develop architectural approaches and solutions by assessing current systems, conducting business and technical reviews, and documenting key findings—then providing recommendations that guide future design, integration, or modernization efforts

Create and socialize the development and adoption of IT governance practices, architecture frameworks, and standards across the organization.

Continuously monitor emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating their applicability to the City’s goals and evolving enterprise architecture

Qualifications

Degree in a related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution, plus four years of relevant experience—or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Proven expertise across architectural domains (e.g., solution, application, technology, security, and enterprise), with strong knowledge of architecture frameworks and cybersecurity principles.

Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, including mentoring junior staff, setting direction for teams, and fostering a collaborative work environment.

Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to deliver results under tight timelines and shifting priorities.

Strategic thinker with the ability to align architectural decisions with organizational priorities and anticipate future needs.

Advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with sound judgment on complex technical and business issues.

Skilled at working across disciplines—including technical leads, subject matter experts, project managers, and business analysts—to co-design and deliver integrated, scalable solutions.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into meaningful insights for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Completion of a Police Information Check is required.
