About the role

Under the direction of the Associate Director, International Services, the incumbent contributes to the successful transition and retention of students at Sheridan through the provision of supports and services related to safe off-campus housing. The incumbent facilitates educational awareness sessions and workshops for students, staff, and community members related to off campus housing; tenant rights; Be a Good Neighbour Guide, and community safety. Furthermore, the incumbent connects students with supports available through community partners and stays abreast of programming and resources available to students in the community. The Off-campus Housing Coordinator creates and updates a robust suite of informational resources (print, digital) as well as communications related to off-campus housing and facilitates the collection and analysis of data on housing needs of Sheridan students as well as supports required for students’ transition to Sheridan and the community.
What You’ll Be Doing

Providing support to students through one-on-one appointments (in person and virtually), group sessions, programs, and activities;
-
Developing individualized action plans for students facing housing challenges, ensuring their needs are addressed through tailored resources, advice, and strategies to navigate housing challenges and transition to Sheridan and surrounding community;
-
Responding to student requests for information and supports including providing assistance in locating emergency housing and/or local hotels/short-term accommodations.;
-
Providing support for housing emergencies related to eviction, homelessness, and safety by assisting students in locating emergency housing or alternative housing options;
-
Guiding students through the housing search; locates safe affordable vacancies, addresses preferences for housing across three cities and beyond;
- Including provision of support throughout the full student journey while also addressing large volumes of housing requests pre-arrival and at the start of each semester;
-
Supporting students with challenges beyond housing such as safety needs, financial emergencies, food insecurity, etc., by facilitating referrals to on- and off-campus partners as well as provision of information on various resources;
-
Arranging for emergency financial support for transportation and other immediate needs, when needed;
-
Coordinating and facilitating programs for distribution of food items, winter clothing and kits to students with assistance from student workers and Sheridan colleagues;
-
Conducting intake and needs assessments including the review of basic needs, income, budget planning, employment, and academic considerations, to offer tailored appropriate supports, specialized resources and settlement plans;
-
Connecting students with appropriate off-campus resources and organizations through warm referrals and direct connections;
-
Working with internal partners such as the First Year Experience (FYE), Student Leadership Development and Engagement (SLDE), International Services and Sheridan Student Union (SSU) to organize and deliver collaborative events focused on students’ transition to Sheridan and the community;
-
Creating and updating off-campus housing and community resources including: updating internal and external housing web pages and student portals for both the Off-Campus Housing, Living in the Community and Citizenship pages;
-
Updating and delivering presentations related to new student transition including Pre-Arrival, New Student Orientation

Performing other duties as assigned.
About You

You enjoy balancing many different tasks, staying organized and planning and have the ability to integrate multiple streams of information, prioritize and track multiple projects to meet a
demanding workload and keep things running smoothly.

Your excellent problem-solving skills allow you to resolve unexpected challenges and come up with improvements to existing processes.
The successful candidate will also meet the following requirements:

Minimum of a 3-year diploma/degree or equivalent in Education, Social Work, Student Development or related field;

Minimum of two years experience working in Education and/or Social Services sector(s);
- Experience in student residence, housing or settlement service preferred;
- At least two years of experience with program development and delivery of programs/workshops/interventions to large number of participants;
-
Experience problem-solving with diverse groups and supporting the removal of barriers to services for equity-deserving communities;
-
Demonstrated computer skills and experience in the Microsoft Suite, website content management (creating, modifying/updating), internet research, database management (creating, updating and report generating);
-
Commitment to the principles of empowerment, integration and inclusion, and demonstrated skills and ability in the following are required;

Working with diverse populations, including international individuals and newcomers;
-
Responding to client needs in a sensitive and positive manner;
-
Maintaining a high degree of confidentiality;
-
Demonstrated awareness of systemic injustices that impact daily life, including the affordable housing crisis, rising living costs, and their interconnectedness with social inequities, such as discrimination, access to resources, and health disparities;

Fluency in a second language other than English is preferred.
