Job Description
Reporting to the Director of HR, this position is responsible for providing Human Resources consultation to provincially and federally regulated client groups in the functional areas of Employee Relations/Engagement, Compliance, Recruitment and Selection, Health and Safety, Performance Management, and Culture Building. This position is also responsible for the communication and consistent application of company policy and procedures. This position is also responsible for managing a direct report, who provides tactical/administrative assistance in supporting their area of responsibility.
Responsibilities
Legal compliance and ethical standards:
- Provides leadership and consultation to Management in the areas of employee relations, performance management, salary and performance review, corrective action and documentation, coaching and development, and policy/legislation awareness.
- Actively participates in the department’s strategic plan by providing input and consultation on HR issues.
HR & Health and Safety Information Management:
- Ensures effective and efficient administration in the areas of employee records and HRIS; WSIB, WCB and CSST claims management; compensation, and other employment programs.
Change Management:
- Provides consultative support as it applies to performance management and corrective action.
- Advises on legislative changes and/or trends in HR; ensures on-going legal compliance with all relevant provincial employment legislation and HR policy; and ensures consistent and fair policy and practice application.
- Implementation of policy changes.
- Provides guidance and supports acquisition activity related to the integration of employees, HR systems, and HR processes.
Fostering a positive work culture:
- Ensures the maintenance of a positive employee relations climate by assisting in development of policies and programs to improve employee satisfaction; support the implementation of activities to assess climate/culture; the promotion of inclusive communication practices; and the resolution of employee issues through the effective use of open door, and investigation and counselling techniques.
- Promote the Our Way culture by attending start-up meetings, General Meetings and culture related activities as required.
Employee Relations & Engagement:
- Promotes the participation in the EOS and ensure sites create action plans around results.
- Ensures the implementation of the recognition and reward initiatives to improve employee engagement.
- Provide administrative support for salary adjustments, promotions, transfer, leave of absences and terminations.
Recruitment & Selection:
- In collaboration with the Recruitment team implements strategies for recruitment that are inclusive.
- Provides support in sourcing and screening of candidates, conducts interviews, checks references, completes background checks, and prepares offer letters for successful candidates.
- Provides response to HR questions as requested via the company’s website.
Experience
- 4 – 7 years of experience in Human Resources.
- 1 -2 years experience in a management role.
Education
- Post secondary education/certification in Human Resources preferred.
- Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) an asset.
