Course Information

Students will carry out an action research project on a problem of professional practice. They will formulate a research question and situate it in a professional and scholarly context, formulate a plan for action, carry out the plan, collect data to evaluate and modify the plan and practice, and produce a final output. .5 credit This course is taught online (synchronous and asynchronous).

The Faculty of Education invites applications for a Limited Duties Instructor to teach Research Capstone in Psychology, Part 2 in the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) program. This course provides teacher candidates with the opportunity to design and carry out an action research project focused on a problem of professional practice within educational contexts. The instructor will guide candidates through the process of formulating research questions, situating their inquiry within scholarly and professional literature, implementing an action plan, collecting and analyzing data, and producing a final research output.

The successful candidate will play a key role in mentoring and supporting teacher candidates as they engage in practitioner-based inquiry, contributing to their development as reflective, research-informed educators.
Prepare and deliver course content aligned with the approved course objectives and learning outcomes.

Develop the course outline in consultation with the course coordinator and in accordance with Faculty guidelines.

Support teacher candidates in the development and implementation of individual action research projects.

Provide timely, constructive feedback on student work and research progress.

Facilitate both synchronous (real-time) and asynchronous online learning activities as required.

Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes teacher candidate success and well-being.

Assess student work, assign final grades, and comply with university policies on academic integrity and assessment.

Communicate effectively with the course coordinator (if applicable) and the Teacher Education Office regarding course matters.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for all activities associated with the successful delivery of the course, including but not limited to: developing, preparing, and delivering the course; setting and marking examinations, assessing the academic work of students, and reporting grades.

Candidates must be willing to undertake training as required by the Employer including, but not limited to, training in respect of health and safety, harassment and discrimination, and legislated service standards.

Qualifications

Qualifications (Minimum Required):

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in qualification in developmental or educational psychology.
  • Demonstrated record of effective teaching performance at the post-secondary level
  • Knowledge of and experience in conducting school-based research or action research within the area of developmental, educational psychology, or related field.
  • Familiarity with research design, data collection, and analysis methods appropriate for practitioner inquiry and action research.

Preferred Qualifications / Assets:

  • Doctorate in Psychology (developmental, educational, or related field).
  • Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification in good standing (current or within the last five years).
  • Experience supporting teacher candidates or educators in applied research projects.
  • Experience teaching in online environments, including both asynchronous and synchronous formats.
  • Demonstrated use of innovative and effective approaches to online teaching and learning.

Course offerings could be assigned to the workload of full-time faculty or to part-time faculty with seniority or preference rights in accordance with the Faculty Collective Agreement, or left unfilled based on operational/enrolment requirements. All positions are subject to budget approval.
