Recruitment range: $72,242 - $79,650 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.
Performance range: starting salary to max of $93,951 is available through annual performance increases.

Job Summary
The Centre for Asia-Pacific Initiatives (CAPI), University of Victoria is seeking a Research Project Officer to oversee the various projects, partnerships, and research endeavors of CAPI. Reporting to the Director, and working collaboratively with CAPI’s Office Manager, the Research Project Officer will oversee the implementation of CAPI’s strategic objectives by supporting the development of funding applications, proposals, programs, research projects, event coordination and outreach.
This role is situated on-campus at the University of Victoria at the Centre for Asia-Pacific Initiatives (CAPI). Occasional travel and working outside of regular office hours may be necessary. Residency in the Greater Victoria area required, with the possibility of a partial work-from-home arrangement.
Job Requirements
An undergraduate degree in a related discipline that is appropriate for this role and at least 5 years related experience.
Experience should include:
- Project management experience, preferably in research environment
- Research grant planning, writing, budgeting, and implementation.
- Event planning and management.
- Experience operating within a larger institutional setting and engaging with external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of Asian cultures and/or languages (other than English).
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge/skills/abilities:
- Budget development
- Report and grant writing
- Exceptional administrative and organizational skills including the ability to prioritize a large workload and deal with frequent interruptions
- Excellent communications skills and ability to communicate to a variety of audiences
- Ability to manage multiple, overlapping projects.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse population
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as required to assist with CAPI events.
- Ability to build relationships with service providers, national and international clientele, and interact professionally with program participants is required.
Assets/preferences:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree, with research experience, preferably in a related field
- Familiarity with Asian cultures and the ability to understand and speak Asian languages conversationally. Written language skills an asset.
- Knowledge of the UVic systems (FMIS, Cascade, Connect, FAST, Teams) an asset.
