The Ministry of SaskBuilds and Procurement (SBP) supplies services to the public and other ministries that support efforts to build the economy and make a better life for all Saskatchewan people.
Priority Saskatchewan and Stakeholder Relations (PSSR) branch has a focus to ensure we are proactively engaging with industry and relevant areas of our ministry and others within the Government of Saskatchewan (GOS) on various procurement and procurement related topics to continue expanding Saskatchewan’s capacity and supply chain resilience.
The Opportunity
PSSR is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and collaborative Business Advisor to join a team of professionals. This is a permanent full-time position based in Regina. This position will allow you to leverage your leadership skills, passion, and technical expertise with an organization that holds deep-rooted values of Respect & Integrity, Serving Citizens, Excellence & Innovation, Transparency & Fairness and Acting as One Team across Government.
As a Business Advisor, you will:
- Research, identify, and manage all aspects of complex projects and processes including utilizing different systems or tools to retrieve and analyze data, identify technical and legal issues, perform financial and non-financial data analysis, and evaluate current and future trends;
- Research policies, programs and processes designed to help provincial government organizations adopt best practices and improve our procurement outcomes;
- Develop relationships and liaise with senior ministry, agency, and Crown corporation officials to assist them through strategic policy implementation, projects and initiatives to achieve client and government objectives;
- Provide professional expertise to clients using project management methods to reach acceptable solutions for business requirements and ensure best value is achieved;
- Create, format, and edit a variety of documents utilizing various software applications within tight and specific timelines; and
- Organized, participate and lead committees and teams to plan, execute, and report outcomes regarding ministry hosted events and stakeholder events.
Ideal Candidate
To be successful in the role, the ideal candidate will be:
- Trusted advisor, able to engage with industry, business and government partners to provide advice on policy or process changes to enhance procurement practices that support Saskatchewan’s economic development and public service goals
- Analytic thinker, able to proactively conduct research and analysis on emerging trends;
- Research policies, programs and processes designed to help provincial government organizations adopt best practices and improve their procurement outcomes;
- Tactful communicator, with strong negotiation and conflict management skills, able to gain consensus with diverse stakeholder groups;
- Proactively identify issues and challenges, ability to identify root causes to problems and craft potential solutions and risks;
- Recognizing situations requiring confidentiality, protecting sensitive and private information;
- Collaborative and skilled in developing strong working relationships;
- Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively and efficiently meeting tight deadlines; and
- Attention to detail and expertise in Microsoft Office Suite
Typically, the knowledge for this position would be gained through:
- 3 years of experience in the fields of business, procurement, economic development, or related area.
- Education in the areas of business, social sciences, and/or economics would be considered an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered.
