The opportunity:

The University of Manitoba is looking for a Makerspaces Coordinator. This position will be responsible for operation, maintenance, and optimization of fabrication spaces to support student design and fabrication projects, including space management, equipment operation and maintenance, student training and supervision, and health & safety compliance. The Student Makerspaces Coordinator will also work with the Departments and other technical staff to ensure equipment experts are available as needed.

The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:

· Engineering Technology Diploma from a recognized Community College or equivalent is required.

· Eligibility for CTTAM certification is required.

· Relevant professional qualification (EIT/PEng., CET, Red Seal) is an asset.

· Minimum of two years experience working in a shop environment with a variety of hand tools, machining tools and fabrication/prototyping tools is required.

· Extensive experience in maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing equipment is required.

· Knowledge of safety regulations, WHIMS and hazardous materials protocols and safe work procedures in a shop setting is required.

· Experience in supervising or coaching others, delivering training is required.

· Experience in a university, research or laboratory setting is preferred.

· Experience with students and/or educational settings in a distinct asset.

· An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

· Proficiency in use of MS Office is required.

· Proficiency in safe use of fabrication tools and equipment including maintenance and calibration required.

· Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills required.

· Strong attention to safety, compliance and regulatory standards required.

· Excellent verbal and written communication in English, including high accuracy in creating and maintaining documentation required.

· Relational skills with sound independent judgments, with strong initiative, and conflict management skills are required.

· Strong organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to set priorities and deadlines essential; take direction from multiple individuals and prioritize work is required.

· Strong interpersonal skills required.

· Ability to adjust regular work schedule to meet peak periods is required.

· Work effectively both independently and as a team member and have a positive attitude is required.

· Ability to work effectively under pressure and time constraints is required.

· Capable of performing the duties as assigned

· Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
