NATURE OF WORK

The occupation of the education consultant includes the advising of senior officials in educational services, teachers and other professionals in matters concerning the implementation, development and evaluation of the higher learning programs, the appropriate academic organization and the selection and use of methods, techniques, equipment, etc.

CHARACTERISTIC FUNCTION

Keeps abreast of research and new developments in the field of education, with respect to curriculum and educational methods, complementary activities, manuals and other educational material and evaluation of academic performance;

Oversees the introduction of both experimental and other new developments in the area of higher learning;

Provide information to students and the school administration regarding academic courses and course schedules.

Administrative tasks related to the implementation of Higher Learning programs, policies and procedures (ex. Working with students, teachers, other consultants, partner educational institutions, higher learning employees and Cree School Board departments and employees).

Preparation, planning and implementation of various orientation, land-based courses/programming and completion or graduation events.

Preparation of various Higher Learning manuals, guides and information for students and teachers for the department of Higher Learning.

Support and mentor students who are in Higher Learning programs.

Co-ordinate the logistics of courses offered in the communities as required.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate specialty notably education.

A Brevet issued by the Minister of Education of Quebec is an asset.

Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in education or a related field.

Bilingualism required, Cree and English; French is an asset.

Knowledge and ability to research college, university or professional programs;

Willingness to travel.

35 hrs/week

The Cree School Board (CSB) provides pre-school, elementary and secondary education to the James Bay Cree youth and supports Cree adults in their pursuit of post-secondary education, continuing education and vocational training.

As an independent First Nation school board recognized by the Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport, it also develops programs and pedagogical materials in Cree, French and English following Quebec Education Program guidelines.
