About our Program:
The Faculty of Nursing at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) offers the only undergraduate and graduate nursing programs in the province and plays a vital role in supporting local and national health systems by developing nurse leaders grounded in the philosophy of Primary Health Care. Nursing is a dynamic profession that demands critical and reflective thinking informed by both science and human perspectives. To meet the evolving needs of the health system, the Faculty of Nursing is committed to embedding new ways of thinking and being within its curriculum and pedagogy — emphasizing inter-professional collaboration, diversity and inclusivity, and a deep respect for the Calls to Action of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission. This includes fostering reflection and action toward decolonization and Indigenization.
A key curriculum element in the faculty’s educational approach is simulation-based learning, which prepares students to enter professional practice with confidence and competence. The program thoughtfully blends classroom instruction, clinical placements, and immersive simulation experiences that mirror the complexity of real-world healthcare. These simulations are intentionally designed to challenge and strengthen students’ clinical reasoning, technical proficiency, and decision-making skills within a safe and supportive environment.
Integral to this vision is the strong collaboration with UPEI’s Clinical Learning and Simulation Centre (CLSC) — a cutting-edge, inter-professional hub for experiential learning. Equipped with advanced simulation technologies, the CLSC enables nursing students to refine hands-on procedures, clinical judgment, teamwork, and patient communication alongside students from other health disciplines.
In this role, the successful candidate will plan and deliver simulation experiences that reflect current clinical practice and directly support the curriculum needs of the Faculty of Nursing. They will also support other health disciplines in their simulation endeavors and contribute to simulation activities within the CLSC. They will facilitate scenarios in the CLSC aligned with nursing and inter-professional learning objectives; participate in both Faculty of Nursing and CLSC team meetings and ongoing training to remain current with protocols, technologies, and innovations; and provide feedback to enhance simulation effectiveness and learner engagement. By supporting CLSC staff in delivering simulations involving other disciplines, the role also helps foster inter-professional collaboration and enrich the overall learning experience. Close collaboration with Faculty of Nursing and CLSC leadership ensures ongoing engagement in professional development and alignment with the latest pedagogical approaches and technological advancements in experiential learning.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have earned a minimum of a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing (BScN or BN) and have at least 3 years of full-time clinical experience and be eligible for licensure with the College of Registered Nurses and Midwives of Prince Edward Island.
Applicants must have recent, hands-on experience in designing and delivering simulation-based education. In addition, completion of certification through the Canadian Nurse Educators Institute (CNEI), earning the designation of Canadian Certified Simulation Nurse Educator (CCSNE), is required.
Experience in providing clinical supervision of students (including preceptorships) or peer clinical education would be an asset. The Canadian Nurse Educators Institute (CNEI) Clinical Instructor Certificate course would be an asset. Master’s degree in nursing would be an asset. Valid driver’s license is required.
Hours: Full-time - 37.5 hours per week
