The Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF) is a leading and dynamic philanthropic organization dedicated to fostering positive change and community development in greater Edmonton. We are seeking experienced and visionary volunteers to join our Investment Committee.
The Organization

We do this by leveraging over $800 million in assets under management to provide an average of over $35 million in community grants and scholarships each year, thanks to the generous support of thousands of donors. The Edmonton Community Foundation works with donors to create endowments that support charitable causes in our community. Our investments are stewarded with care to ensure long-term sustainability and impact.
The Opportunity
The Investment Committee (IC) is a volunteer committee reporting to the ECF Board of Directors. Its primary role is to oversee the Foundation’s investment policies, monitor the performance of fund custodians and managers, and ensure the Foundation's investment strategy aligns with its mission and fiduciary responsibilities.Through the Committee Chair, the Investment Committee reports directly to the Board of Directors and provides regular updates on its activities, findings, and recommendations.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
- Monitor adherence to investment policies by fund custodians and investment managers.
- Review and report on the performance of investment managers quarterly.
- Evaluate mission-related investments annually.
- Recommend appointment, review, or termination of investment managers and custodians.
- Review and recommend changes to ECF’s investment policies, including:

Non-Endowed Pooled Portfolio

Asset Management Plan
-
Mission Related Investments
-
Shariah-Compliant Investments
-
Capital Market and Cash Flow Policies
- Engage in periodic activities such as rebalancing, asset mix studies, or manager searches.
Commitment:
- Approximately 5 hour per Committee meeting (4 meetings per year plus review of meeting documents). Meetings are held quarterly.
- Attend all scheduled Investment Committee meetings and participate actively in discussions.
- Review relevant documents and reports prior to meetings to provide informed input.
- Contribute to consensus-based decision-making.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards.
- Collaborate with fellow committee members, Foundation staff, and the Outsourced Chief Investment Officer (OCIO) to safeguard and enhance the financial health and integrity of the Foundation’s investment portfolio.
- Committee members serve for a one-year renewal term, for a maximum of six years. Committee members begin their terms at the conclusion of the June Board meeting.
The Ideal Candidate
- Experience in investment management, finance, economics, or a related field.
- Strategic and analytical thinking with an understanding of fiduciary duty.
- Familiarity with institutional investment practices and policies.
- Commitment to ECF’s mission and values.
- Previous board or committee experience is an asset.
