The Opportunity:
The City of Red Deer Parks Section is currently recruiting to fill multiple seasonal positions of Parks Labourer 1 for the Horticulture, Sports Fields and Cemetery section. The ideal candidates will have related experience, a good work ethic, and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
The Parks Labourer 1 positions are key positions, which allow Parks to provide our seasonal operational service levels. These positions are required for Landscape Maintenance.
You will operate small, motorized equipment as required, occasionally drive small trucks and operate light equipment, use small tools such as a drill, sander, chainsaw, weed eater, or push-mower, and occasionally apply pesticides in accordance with all Provincial Legislation and Parks & Public Works Department policies.
As our preferred candidate, you will have:
- Grade 8 or equivalent
- First aid course is desirable
- Valid Alberta Driver’s License
- Six months’ of related Landscaping or Horticulture experience
- Ability to perform basic labouring activities
- Ability to operate and maintain related small, motorized equipment (e.g. lawnmowers, chainsaws, etc.) and to use a variety of standard labouring tools.
- Ability to cooperate with colleagues as a team, and to understand and follow instructions.
- Ability to exert frequent physical effort (e.g. planting, digging, pruning, operating mowers, erecting rink boards, playground and other equipment) and to work in fatiguing positions (e.g. bending, kneeling, etc.).
- Ability to work outside in most types of weather.
- Must be able to work independently and/or with a crew.
- Ability to exercise care and to follow all safety policies and procedures, particularly in high public-use areas.

Remuneration:
$26.94 to $28.53 per hour.
Hours of Work:
80 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday, early morning start (as scheduled). Some evening and weekend work may be required when needed.
Additional Information:
These are seasonal positions; the anticipated duration is approximately 4 months, with the possibility of an extension into fall/winter months.
