The Opportunity:
Solvest is seeking a permanent Red Seal Electrical Journeyperson to join the Operations Department! Our Solvest electricians work on bulk residential air-source heat pumps, commercial and utility scale solar, and battery and microgrid projects throughout the Yukon and across Northern Canada.

Employment Status: Permanent Full Time – 40 hours per week + frequent overtime during peak times

Starting Wage: $40 - $52 per hour (based on experience) + overtime and per diems + annual profit-sharing bonus based on company performance

Leave Entitlement: Three weeks of paid vacation to start (15 days) + 5 paid sick days per year

Job Description:
The chosen applicant will be trained and expected to perform the following tasks::

  • Conduct all electrical work, both conventional and renewable energy specific, in compliance with the current Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and applicable OHS regulations.
  • Work with the Solvest Operations Team to install bulk residential mini-split air source heat pumps in the Yukon and across Northern Canada.
  • Work with the Solvest Operations Team to install renewable energy systems at commercial and utility scales throughout Northern Canada.
  • Mentor and train electrical apprentices and installation teams.
  • Review electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning grid tied and off grid renewable energy systems.
  • Commission commercial solar systems including online monitoring, system performance, safety, client understanding and awareness, and QA/QC.
  • Complete all work in a timely manner and notify the Electrical Superintendent of any delays that will take additional time to address.
  • Ensure the worksite is clean, organized, and safe at all times.
  • Be respectful and polite to clients, other contractors, and members of the community.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Must be a certified Red Seal electrician to be considered for the position
  • Experience in commercial electrical is required
  • Experience working on energized equipment is required
  • Exceptional people and social skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and pivot working priorities to meet multiple demands with little supervision
  • Ability to provide high levels of service consistently
  • Experience in successfully negotiating solutions to complex problems
  • Professional and respectful demeanor towards colleagues, clients and the public
  • Previous solar experience would be considered an asset

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be willing to work at heights – Fall Arrest Training will be provided
  • Must be willing to travel and work in communities within and outside of Yukon
  • Must wear all required PPE
  • Valid driver’s license with at least 3 years of driving experience
  • Criminal Record Check
