Operations Trainer

The location in Kingsport Packaging, (Tennessee, United States), is seeking talent to fill the position of Operations Trainer. This job is full-time permanent.
Reporting to the Training & Development Manager, the Technical Trainer is a subject matter expert resource for operations employees in the Kingsport Packaging Mill. The Technical Trainer ensures that employees are learning appropriate and safe work methods to complete the necessary tasks. The role also serves as primary training resource for hourly new hire onboarding with regard to powered industrial truck training and certification, crane/lifting/rigging and lock-out tag-out. The position works closely with the Operations Team Leaders and Safety Leadership and creates/updates process performance guides and/or standard operating procedures. Ensures adequate and timely skill attainment of newly hired Operators to support the Kingsport high-performance work system. Conducts team member assessments related to task training, provides feedback and coordinates the skill qualification process. Provides dotted line guidance to hourly training specialists on the operating crews.
Key Responsibilities
- Completes daily technical training on the floor to drive certification of team members in their roles.
- Partners with operations leadership to support new hire onboarding training
- Administrative duties: Process guides, skill qualifications, work system moves
- Assists with tracking, evaluating and measuring training locally
- Influences others to be safety minded
- Analysis and identification of needed skills within job families and shift teams, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
- Development of training schedules and timelines for individuals, shift teams and job families.
- Develops and/or updates training materials as necessary, ensuring document control.
- Coordinates the process for individual task block qualification (skill checks, written components, simulations, online testing, etc.)
- Coordinates schedules and timing for trainers, trainees, SME’s, etc.
- Coordinates performance reviews and trainee feedback.
- Communicates any trainee deficiencies to leadership and assists with action planning and execution as necessary.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years experience working in paper mill operations
- Previous work experience in a manufacturing environment
- Proven success in building collaborative relationships
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficient planning and organization skills
- High degree of computer literacy to include MS Office
Preferred Qualifications
- Associates degree preferred
- Process Engineering background highly preferred.
- 5+ years experience developing and implementing a training plan/system for a manufacturing facility.
- Experience in a union environment
