We invite applications for a full-time Pediatrician in Port Alberni providing care for local pediatric patients and to residents of First Nations communities in Ucluelet, Nitinat, Ahousaht and Opitsaht.
The West Coast General Hospital in Port Alberni is a modern, well equipped 75 bed community hospital with 56 acute (3 ICU) and 32 multilevel beds and 24-hour emergency room services. Port Alberni has an average 300 births per year and the hospital provides a wide array of services to a regional population of 32,000.
Our congenial medical community enjoys a full complement of Family Physicians along with specialist colleagues in anesthesiology, general surgery, obstetrics/ gynecology, urology, internal medicine, psychiatry and radiology.
Benefits
May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) including:
- Recruitment Incentive - $10,000
- Fee Premium - 7.98%;
- Annual Flat Fee - $12,366.72
- Rural CME starting at $2200/annum in year 3&4 in community, increasing to a maximum of $4400/annum after 4 years.

Port Alberni, situated at the end of Vancouver Island's longest inlet, is one of the most affordable waterfront centres on the island. Blessed with a moderate climate, the City of Port Alberni enjoys some of the best sport salmon fishing on the coast.
In addition to the natural beauty of the area, the temperate valley offers an array of year-round outdoor and ecotourism activities.
The city is considered the gateway to Ucluelet and Tofino on the west coast and is within commuting distance to the larger urban centres of Nanaimo to the east and Victoria to the south. Ferry and float plane service to Vancouver from these locations is readily available.
