Superintendent Production and Shipping
About the role
- To perform “Safety Observations” to ensure specific safety rules, procedures, housekeeping, proactive accident prevention and conscious “safety” behaviours are adhered to and enforced if necessary.
- Ensure that Production and safety goals are communicated and met each year by liaison with all employees and Managers, providing necessary training and updates to meet required legislation.
- To ensure that all required H&S forms and documentation by Supervisors and Production Floor Team is adhered to in compliance with Legislative requirements.
- Oversee productivity and quality standards of all machines and converted products. To develop, meet and or exceed annual Plant & Line objectives in regards to efficiency targets and shrinkage targets.
- To identify and lead initiatives areas within the Production, Warehouse and Shipping Operations where costs can be reduced and growth can be maximized.
- To ensure that the Labour Costs are effectively managed by the Operation Leaders and ensure that the goals are being met for the Hourly Team.
- To ensure quality standards are met on raw materials and converted products.
- To facilitate a monthly meeting with the Supervisory/ Management staff to ensure current Production, Staffing, Quality, Health & Safety and or any other issues are considered and resolved.
- Support Mgmt decisions, policies and goals.
- Drive and implement efficiencies to effectively reduce, labour and overtime costs as well as shipping and transportation costs.
- Ensure the security of products, materials and the building including risk management and loss prevention.
- Provide frequent communication, feedback and information flow to ensure customer delivery requirements are met.
- To consider and gather all views and facts before rendering decisions especially at the 2nd level of the Open door policy.
- Focuses on the day-to-day execution of production and shipping activities.
- Manages schedules, labor allocation, and output for specific areas (e.g., converting, shipping dock).
- Monitors line performance, resolves shop floor issues, and ensures labor and materials are used efficiently.
- Schedule attainment, throughput, scrap rate, labor efficiency, shipping accuracy
- To ensure that the Performance Management Program is conducted and utilized to increase the capabilities of direct reports and Supervisory Staff and is in line with the overall goals for the division and production department/team.
- To perform general and administrative requirements to provide reports as required by the Operations Manager and/or any Senior Manager.
- To review and approve any Production, Warehouse & Shipping or Quality Standards.
- Interact with the Sales, Scheduling, Human Resources, Payroll and Accounting Departments as required
- Responsible for all plant operations in the absence of the Operations Manager.
- To conduct research related to plant activities, as assigned.
- To participate and lead any continuous improvement projects, meetings, initiatives, committees, and or trials, as assigned
- Back-up for the position is the Superintendent from alternate departments/plants when required or as designated by the Operations Manager and/or Plant Manager.
- To perform other tasks or jobs as need or required by the Company
Education:
- Post graduate education degree/diploma in related business studies
Essential Skills/Qualifications:
- 5-10 years manager experience in manufacturing
- Solid experience in manufacturing experiences to meet bottom line
- Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
- Ability to compile reports and present at meetings
- Ability to liaise with all levels of management and employees
- Personally involved with all events and decisions
Working Conditions:
- Works in well lit, climate-controlled office environment
- Exposed to dust, noise, heat and humidity when in plant
Physical Demands:
- Moderate mental concentration for computer work, to produce required reports and recommendations
