About the role
Sinai Health is looking for a Dispatch Assistant, Laundry to join our Support Services team at the Mount Sinai Hospital Site. This position contributes to the effective operation of the Linen Department for the distribution of Linen/Laundry throughout the Hospital and other user areas.
About the Support Services Department
The Support Services Department at Mount Sinai Hospital is vital to ensuring a safe, clean, and efficient environment for patients and staff. Comprising over 400 dedicated professionals, including housekeepers and porters, the team excels in upholding high standards of cleanliness, managing waste and recycling, and handling mail and linen distribution. We invest in our team with robust training and professional development, ensuring they contribute to the exceptional care our hospital is known for.
In this role you will:
- Fill requisitions and deliver linen supplies on request from users via scheduled and stat deliveries
- Receive clean linen from central laundry for hospital wide distribution
- Distribute bins for soiled linen throughout the hospital
- Remove soiled linen bins from designated areas and ship to central laundry
- Prepare scrub suits to fit uniform dispenser's slots
- Replenish and remove scrub suits from dispensing machine
- Attend to lab coats exchange window
- Sort and distribute unit owned items, e.g privacy curtains, shower curtains, and slings
- Replenish linen supply carts to established quotas and standards
- Load/unload linen on/from linen trailer
- Deliver/collect linen bins to/from user areas
- Exchange linen carts to all user areas
- Carry out the collection and return of soiled linen
- Issue and distribute staff uniforms, lab coats and scrub suits
- Replenish/remove scrub suits in ScrubEx machine
- Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as assigned

Mandatory
- Successful completion of a High School diploma
- 1 year recent experience in a hospital materials/supplies distribution department Ability to meet the physical demands of the position in order to perform the essential duties of the job which requires lifting (up to 33 lbs.), pushing (up to 63 lbs.), adjusting to different temperatures, walking, bending and standing for extended periods of time
Skills and Knowledge
- Basic computer skills
- Familiarity with medical and surgical supplies
- Ability to adapt to a fast paced, changing environment while meeting deadlines
- Customer service oriented, with the ability to effectively work in a diverse environment both independently and as a team player
- Demonstrated proficiency in communication skills, both verbal and written Demonstrated satisfactory work performance attendance history
