Commuter Driver - On-It Regional Transit

SOUTHLAND is currently hiring a part-time Commuter Driver to transport passengers from Okotoks to downtown Calgary and return. Shifts fall Monday through Friday, worked as a split shift.

Commuter Drivers are responsible for safely transporting passengers on a daily basis and must be committed to providing superior service while demonstrating strong communication skills, patience, maturity, and initiative.

Wage: $23.00 per hour

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Transport passengers safely and according to route and time schedules
  • Manage the operator tracking software via the provided tablet, while the bus is not being operated
  • Maintain radio contact and use proper radio protocol
  • Operate the bus in a safe manner in all-weather conditions and be prepared for all road conditions
  • Provide information and assist passengers in a courteous manner
  • Manage passenger behavior by quickly and effectively solving problems
  • Report vehicle maintenance issues, passenger emergencies, and schedule concerns
  • Conduct pre-and-post trip checks of unit each time it is used
  • Drop off or pick up the bus when requested by Operations or Maintenance
  • Complete various forms of paperwork, as required
  • Wear the approved uniform in the prescribed manner

Requirements:

  • Class 2 with Air Brake Endorsement (Q)
  • First Aid / CPR preferred – will train for the right candidate
  • CUTA Transit Ambassador Training considered an asset
  • Knowledge of various types of equipment (transit and coach)
  • Map reading ability
  • Organized, punctual and reliable
  • Calm, upbeat and helpful manner
  • Excellent driving skills and habits

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: $23.00 per hour
