Location

This position is required to work in person at the Music Centre in Burlington. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands.

Position Overview

Work with members of the Burlington Teen Tour Band. Reporting to the Director, Bands & Music Services, this position works with our brass instruments. Required to attend rehearsals this position instructs the brass section and assists with marching and field shows. Assist to ensure with the safety and well-being of band members while working with them.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the members of the Burlington Teen Tour Band
  • Assist Assistant Director of Bands with the instruction of music to the brass sections in the band while providing brass instrument fundamentals and development of range.
  • Assist the Director of Bands with teaching of marching and field show.
  • Collaborate with other instructors, be part of a team
  • Coach and develop members for their performances.
  • Coach and develop members with life skills.
  • Assist in resolving conflicts within the section.
  • Ensure the section is performance ready.
  • Address concerns and set section goals.
  • Schedule and attend extra sectional practices.
  • Have good communication skills with both band members and other staff.
  • Travel with the band for performances and tours may be required.
  • Duties and responsibilities are inclusive but not limited to the above.

Requirements

Education: Completion of a High School Diploma or equivalent required. Standard First Aid and CPR. Good organizational skills are required.

Experience: Over 2 years of previous Marching Band or Drum Corps brass instructing music experience. Experience working with teenagers is a must.

Police Check Requirement

This position requires the successful candidate to provide a clear criminal record check with a vulnerable sector screening at their own expense.
