Senior FinOps Practitioner

About the Role
The Senior FinOps Practitioner will help define and evolve Teranet’s FinOps practice. You will be responsible (in collaboration with Architects, Team Leads, Engineers, and our IT Finance partners) for establishing effective reporting in line with Finance’s requirements, building cost analysis dashboards to provide cloud spend insights and track cloud spend performance, establishing Cost Allocation processes, advising on the most cost-efficient products for our cloud infrastructure and applications, and advising on systems optimizations from a cost perspective.
What You’ll Be Doing
Cloud Workload Analysis and Forecasting:
- Analyze spend trends, find opportunities for savings, and advise IT Team with specific recommendations for improvement.
- Provide reports and custom dashboards to share and visualize cost data.
- Work with Finance, and Application Development teams to set and track budgets within Azure.
- Explain Microsoft Cost Data to Financial Stakeholders
- Provide guidance to application owners on effective forecasting within Azure.
- Use Azure Cost Management & Billing data, Cost API, Power BI and other tools to analyze Azure billing and Usage data.
Cloud Financial Tool Management:
- Work with Finance and Application Development teams on how to best define their tags in line with their products and revenue
- streams for effective reporting.
- Build and maintain pipelines for cloud cost data analysis customizations.
- Feed data into cloud allocation and show-back models.
- Implement and manage automated tools to help identify cost trends, anomalies, and track budget (actuals vs estimates).
Cloud Workload Optimization:
- Advise on most cost-effective and work-load appropriate products and configurations.
- Use Azure Advisor, anomaly detection and spend trends to recommend cost optimization actions, including right-sizing workloads, identifying potential savings plans or reserved capacity and contributing to conversations with Procurement to facilitate purchase of savings plans or reservations.
- Collaborates with DevOps team to implement FinOps deployments and automation within CI/CD pipelines.
- Collaborates with Infrastructure and Application Development teams on design of new services and system upgrades; participating in capacity planning, right sizing, tagging, and IaC automation.
- Collaborate with Enterprise IT teams on cloud asset tracking; ensuring all cloud assets are correctly recorded in CMDB and tracking OS and landing zone license compliance.
- Ensure compliance with Cloud Governance guidelines and guardrails, reporting non-compliant Cost Management relevant Azure Policies and recommending actions to address compliancy gaps.
About You
- Bachelor’s degree or minimum 5 years of experience working in the IT field
- 2-3 years of experience in cloud financial management with Azure
- FinOps Certified Practitioner
- Strong communicator
- In-depth knowledge of cloud architecture and implementation, including:
- Operating systems, networking, storage, and security
- Mult-tenancy, virtualization, orchestration, and elastic scalability
- Knowledge of DevOps tool chains and processes (some hands-on experience nice to have)
- Ability to articulate and understand a financial business case
- Experience with data analytics using Python & SQL or other appropriate language
- Experience building custom dashboards in ELK or other data analytics & visualization tools
- Experience working with Azure Cost Management
- Experience working Scrum, Kanban, or hybrid environments
- Skilled in Power BI and API integration
- Experience with 3rd party Cloud Cost management tools nice to have.
