Overview

The TREP Finance and Compliance Coordinator will be responsible for providing critical financial oversight and strategic support for all funding associated with the Treaty Rights and Environmental Protection (TREP) department. This position will ensure full compliance with funding agreements, timely and accurate reporting to financial agencies, and effective tracking of incoming and outgoing funds—overseeing an annual budget of approximately $2.5 million. The Coordinator will also support long-term financial sustainability by identifying new funding opportunities and ensuring TREP is meeting the terms and obligations of all agreements. The role will help alleviate workload stress currently experienced by staff, and improve operational efficiency, financial transparency, and reporting accuracy.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain detailed financial tracking for all TREP budgets and funding agreements as directed by the TREP Manager
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure all agreements are documented, up-to-date, and in full compliance
  • Track expenditures and revenue to ensure proper allocation and use of funds
  • Handle invoicing and liaise with the SFN Finance department as required
  • Support budgeting processes for new funding proposals and program expansion
  • Provide financial guidance during the hiring and onboarding of new TREP positions
  • Reduce reliance on external financial consultants by handling in-house financial tasks
  • Improve documentation and tracking systems for on-the-land activities and honoraria
  • Support compliance related to CER (Cumulative Effects Reporting) and other regulatory reporting

Ideal Qualifications and Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in financial management, grant administration, or nonprofit accounting
  • Experience working in Indigenous communities or organizations is an asset
  • Familiarity with funding agencies, grant agreements, and compliance regulations
  • Experience managing or reporting on large, complex budgets (over $1 million preferred)

Ideal Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple funding streams
  • Ability to analyze financial data and create clear, actionable reports
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial management software
  • Knowledge of Indigenous governance, land stewardship, and environmental reporting is an asset
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Discretion in handling sensitive and confidential financial information

Work Conditions

  • This position follows a hybrid work model, with a combination of remote work (from home) and in-office presence. The standard work schedule is Monday to Thursday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Specific in-office days will be determined based on team needs and operational requirements.
  • Travel may be required within SFN community and surrounding areas
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
  • Occasional overtime may be required to meet reporting deadlines
  • Wage $ 27.50-$31.63

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $27.50-$31.63 per hour
