Job Profile Under the general direction of the Human Resource (HR) Manager, the Senior Human Resource Consultant (Sr. HRC) is responsible for supporting the HR Manager with the development and implementation of HR programs, policies and initiatives, contributing to HR operational and business planning and assist in the provision of overall Human Resource services, systems and workplace solutions. The Sr. HRC will provide daily supervision, orientation, mentoring and leadership to assigned direct reports. The Sr. HR Consultant will also provide human resource advice and guidance to Management within assigned portfolio, and act as a resource for HR Consultants and the department as a whole in providing senior level HR support on more complex HR issues department-wide.
As The Senior Human Resources Consultant You Will
- Support the HR Manager with operational planning activities for the HR team and strategic planning for the department and larger HR City Team.
- Undertakes special projects and assists with leading Committees related to Corporate Program implementation and HR operational functions.
- Supervises Human Resource Support Staff and HR Programs.
- Provides and coordinates strategic and operational Human Resource consulting services.
Your Education And Qualifications Include
- Post-secondary Degree in Human Resource Management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum four years’ generalist experience in the human resource field in a directly related environment.
- Experience dealing with and providing HR generalist consulting to multiple client areas with various lines of business; in a similar unionized environment.
- Leadership abilities along with previous experience supervising staff including performance management activities, building capacity, promoting continuous learning and development skills.
- Experience working in a unionized environment along with thorough knowledge of collective agreements interpretation, grievance handling, arbitration, collective bargaining, and leading investigations.
- Experience interpreting and applying HR legislation including: Human Rights Legislation, HR and Labour Relations statutes, and HR Pay & benefits, and HR and company policies.
- Experience delivering HR solutions through the design and application of processes and technology. Previous using, training and leading others using HRIS systems is required.
- Experience with defining and using the relevant HRIS systems (Ex: PeopleSoft) for HR metrics for reporting and workforce management.
- Experience and proficiency using a Microsoft Office Suite products, and other software applications.
- Experience working with payroll and benefit processes, would be preferred.
- Experience providing innovative and effective strategic advice to department management on human resource issues.
- Ability to consult, mediate, negotiate and work with a variety of teams/ groups, (i.e. Senior Management, Unions / Associations.)
- Knowledge of how to apply, train, evaluate how HR programs, processes and systems are working in the department.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Able to develop HR related procedures, processes and standards through the application of effective research & thorough analysis.
- Ability to consult, mediate, negotiate and work with a variety of teams/groups, i.e. Senior Management, Unions/Associations.
- Political acumen including the ability to deal with highly contentious and sensitive matters in public environment where department activities and the actions of employees will be of interest to the public and some officials.
- Ability to identify opportunities for department EDI programs and initiates that increase employee demographics and meet the specific business needs of the department.
- IMPORTANT: Applicants who have been educated outside of Canada must have education which is comparable to the minimum qualification in Canada.
