The Programming and Education Officer will contribute to the quality and scope of educational and public programming and will offer support in achieving the objectives of the strategic plan. This will be accomplished by striving to meet the organizational goal of encouraging discovery, appreciation and understanding of Prince Edward Island, and inspire Islanders and guests to explore and understand the world around them.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Develop or contribute to the development of educational and public programming for the PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation’s seven sites located across Prince Edward Island and for off-site locations including school classrooms and other venues;

  • Collaborate with external stakeholders and industry partners to develop programming for public events;

  • Research school curriculum to create educational bridging in the Province’s collection;

  • Lead delivery of on-site and off-site programming;

  • Collaborate with the Communication and Fundraising Coordinator to promote programming and with delivery of digital public programming;

  • Train summer students and contract staff on delivery of program material;

  • Assist with creation and revision of lesson plans and content for education kits;

  • Research cultural and material objects from the Provincial Collection and write related content to be used in public and educational programming including development of online content; and

  • Other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • University degree with studies in education, museum studies, history or a related field.
  • Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered.
  • Experience in educational programming initiatives.
  • Experience in program assessment.
  • Experience in a museum and heritage setting.
  • Experience working with artifacts and with preventative conservation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in working independently with little guidance.
  • Demonstrated management and training skills
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Experience working with computers and various software.
  • Access to reliable transportation.

Other Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree is considered an asset.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset.
