About the role

Permanent Full Time

Overview

As the Director, GRS Best Practices, you will lead a high-performing team responsible for defining, implementing, and evolving best practices across the GRS Business Development team. You will champion process excellence, training, and enablement strategies that drive consistency, efficiency, and growth. You will oversee the planning and execution of an annual calendar of sponsor and advisor events, collaborating closely with internal stakeholders to shape event content and direction. In addition to leading a small Best Practices team, you will also oversee the New Business team, including RFP development and shortlist presentations.

You are a strategic thinker and operational leader who thrives on creating structure, driving adoption, and establishing “our one best way.” With over 10 years of experience in GRS, you bring a deep understanding of the retirement services landscape and a passion for elevating team performance through process and training.

What you will do

  • Design and implement scalable best practices to support our national client-facing teams.

  • Develop and maintain training programs aligned with strategic account management goals.

Collaborate with cross-functional partners (e.g., marketing, legal, product, compliance, operations) to ensure client-facing teams have all the strategic information and resources they need when a new solution, process, or program is launched.

  • Lead the New Business team responsible for RFP responses and finalist presentations including ensuring high-quality, timely, and strategic submissions that reflect GRS value propositions.

  • Oversee the Executive Sponsor program (in collaboration with GL&H partners) for Canada Life’s High Valued GRS and joint GRS/GL&H clients.

  • Provide strategic direction on premier GRS client events – ensuring key feedback is documented, reviewed, implemented (where it makes sense to do so).
Partner with sales leadership to continuously improve win rates and presentation effectiveness.

  • Create and manage an annual calendar of external events for sponsors and advisors that increases the profile of GRS and effectively communicates and supports the GRS strategy.

  • Inspire and lead a diverse team with a focus on collaboration, accountability, and innovation.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

What you will bring

  • 10+ years of experience in client relationship management or account executive roles within Group Retirement Services.
  • Proven success in process design, training development, and team leadership.
  • Deep knowledge of Capital Accumulation Plans (CAPs), Investment Only (IO), and the advisor/consultant landscape.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • A collaborative mindset and ability to influence across functions.
  • A strategic yet hands-on approach to problem-solving.
  • A drive to elevate team performance and client experience.
  • Bilingualism in English and French is a strong asset.

The base salary for this position is between $92,100 - $170,500 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc). If you are selected to move forward in our recruitment process, your recruiter will be able to discuss additional details of our total rewards program with you.

Career opportunities will be open a minimum of 5 business days from the date of posting, closing dates will vary depending on the search activity. All applications received will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
