About the role

Hiring the Position of Manager of Student Mental Health Services/ Mental Health Lead

The St. Clair Catholic District School Board, located in Wallaceburg, Ontario, serves the communities of Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton through 22 elementary and 2 secondary schools. In alignment with the Ontario Comprehensive Mental Health and Addictions Strategy and School Mental Health Ontario, the Board is seeking a Manager of Student Mental Health Services/ Mental Health Lead to provide strategic leadership in the coordination, alignment, implementation of a comprehensive, board-level student mental health and addictions strategy, and management of a team of professionals.

Reporting

Reporting to the Superintendent of Education, Manager of Mental Health Services/ The Mental Health Lead is responsible for promoting and supporting mental health initiatives within the school community. This role involves collaboration with educators, parents, and community partners to create a safe and supportive environment for students. The Manager of Student Mental Health Services/ Mental Health Lead will implement evidence-based practices, provide training, and facilitate programs aimed at enhancing the mental well-being of students.

Qualifications and Skills

To be the successful candidate, you must have a graduate degree and experience with child and youth mental health and well-being, preferably in school or system-level leadership roles, with a minimum of five years of successful, related practice. Experience providing clinical services to children, adolescents, and/or families is required. To be eligible, you must maintain good standing as a regulated health professional, such as a Social Worker, Nurse, Psychotherapist, or Occupational Therapist. You must also have excellent organizational, communication, and coordination skills, demonstrate an attention to detail and be self-directed.

Familiarity with implementation science and demonstrated ability to effectively work with and lead multi-disciplinary teams and to collaborate to achieve desired outcomes are considered assets. Knowledge regarding evidence-based prevention and intervention programs and services; experience with adult learning; health promotion; professional learning and training; and experience working in an educational system are also assets.

Responsibilities:

Program Development and Implementation

  • Develop, implement and evaluate evidence-based practices that align with the Ministry of Education’s and School Mental Health Ontario guidelines and best practices.
  • Coordinate mental health awareness and literacy initiatives for diverse stakeholders, supporting evidence-based promotion and prevention strategies.
  • Implementation of a multi-tiered support system.
  • Comprehensive integration of Social Emotional Learning and mental health practices, engaging parents, caregivers, and youth throughout the process.
  • Develop, facilitate and support the implementation of the SCCDSB Mental Health and Addictions strategy and annual action plan, along with the implementation of the SCCDSB Multi-Year Strategic Plan and Annual Learning and Operating plans.

Training and Support

  • Provide training, professional development and guidance for teachers and staff on mental health literacy, including identification, intervention, and support strategies.
  • In-service multi-disciplinary staff on program delivery, measuring and monitoring.
  • Experience in designing and delivering professional learning and training for adult learners.

Collaboration and Partnerships

  • Partner with community agencies to develop integrated systems of care and facilitate “Right Time, Right Care” navigation for students and families.
  • Serve as liaison for provincial mental health initiatives and collaborate with Mental Health Leaders and Managers across Ontario, contributing to resource development and knowledge sharing.
  • Ability to collaborate with system leaders and community partners to develop, implement, and communicate a comprehensive student mental health and addictions strategy aligned with board and provincial priorities.

Data Collection and Reporting

  • Lead bi-annual school climate surveys aligned with provincial guidelines; analyze and communicate findings to inform strategic planning focused on student well-being, equity, and school connectedness.
  • Provide timely reports to the Board, Ministry of Education, and School Mental Health Ontario regarding project activities and outcomes.

Oversight of Professional Student Services Staff

  • Responsible for the performance management, clinical supervision, and organizational oversight of a multidisciplinary team .
  • Determine placements and scheduling within the board based on student need, conduct performance evaluations, and provide clinical guidance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in administering mental health screenings and assessments, as well as developing and implementing individualized mental health plans.
  • Oversee the case management of complex cases that may involve other departmental areas or external partners.
  • Skilled in building organizational infrastructure, clear protocols, and role clarity to support effective school mental health programming.

Advocacy and Awareness

  • Promote understanding of equity, anti-racism, trauma-informed, and culturally relevant approaches, linking mental health strategies to the promotion of safe, equitable, inclusive, and healthy school environments.
  • Advocate for mental health awareness and destigmatization within the school community.
  • Organize events and campaigns to promote mental health literacy among students, staff, and parents.
  • Ensure that all work meets PHIPA compliance requirements.

Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Education.
