Barrantes owns and operates residential group home settings in the Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge and Guelph regions. Barrantes provides community- and home-based supports throughout southern and central Ontario.

Position Overview:

Barrantes Counselling is an exciting new division of Barrantes & Associates Inc., dedicated to providing compassionate, client-centered mental health support to individuals and families. As we build and expand this growing service, we are looking for Clinical Counsellors who are passionate about making a difference and eager to grow with us. This position offers the opportunity to begin with a part-time caseload, with the potential to increase hours as the division expands and client needs evolve. We are seeking a highly skilled, dedicated and empathetic Clinical Counselor to join our team. The successful candidate will provide individual, group, and/or family counselling services to clients facing a range of developmental, emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a supportive and dynamic environment as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial assessments and develop personalized treatment plans tailored to each client’s strengths and needs.
  • Provide case management and counselling services to clients and their families using evidence-based therapeutic interventions, such as CBT, DBT, or solution-focused therapy.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records, prepare reports and complete charting in compliance with organizational policies and legal standards.
  • Collaborate with other professionals, including social workers, developmental service workers, child and youth counsellors, occupational therapists and physiotherapists, as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide crisis intervention services to clients and their families as needed.
  • Community based capacity building through community education and liaison with internal and external resources.
  • Develop and monitor client care plans.
  • Participate in regular meetings, consultations and site visits in order to make recommendations, referrals, etc. based on client progress.
  • Act as a resource for other agency programs, professionals, students and volunteers.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training to stay current with best practices, policies and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Current registration with a recognized regulatory body, (CRPO, OCSWSSW, CPBAO, etc.).
  • Proven experience in counselling and psychotherapy, preferably in a clinical setting.
  • Comprehensive understanding of mental health and developmental issues, trauma-informed care, substance use/concurrent disorders, cultural competency and appropriate clinical interventions.
  • Strong knowledge of the social detriments of health and the DSM-V, including substance use disorders.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in maintaining detailed documentation and case notes.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Clinical Counselor I – 0-5 years of experience
  • Clinical Counselor II – 5+ years of experience

  • Cultural competence and sensitivity.
  • Adaptability and creativity in problem-solving.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Assets:

  • Experience working with specific populations, including children, youth, families, persons of colour and those with mental health and/or developmental disabilities.
  • Multilingual abilities.
  • Certification in specialized therapies or modalities, (CBT, DBT, etc.).
