POSITION:HEALTH RECORDS PRACTITIONER, CODING

Primary Sites: Alliance Wide (Hybrid)

Temporary Full-Time

(Shifts: Monday to Friday, 8-hour days, may be subject to change)

POSITION SUMMARY: Health Records Practitioner, Coding are responsible for the accurate and timely coding and abstracting of inpatient, day surgery, Emergency Room and specialty clinic visits.

REPORTS TO: Manager, Patient Registration and Health Information

DATE REQUIRED: As soon as possible

SALARY: $31.08 to $32.98 per hour

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Graduate of a Canadian College of Health Information Management (CCHIM) Program.

• Certification in Health Information Management (CHIM).

• Active and in good standing CHIMA membership

• Classification and Coding Specialist Certification an asset

EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum one year coding/abstracting inpatient, day surgery, Emergency Room and clinic visits using ICD-

10/CCI

• Meditech experience preferred

ABILITIES:

• Excellent understanding of CIHI coding standards and other relevant resources.

• Excellent computer skills.

• To work independently and is self-directed.

• Organize and prioritize workload to ensure deadlines are met.

• Demonstrates initiative, good judgment and identifying opportunities for action.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Understands customer service and their needs.

• Work with other members of the healthcare team and external agencies.

• Is flexible and adaptable.

• Maintains confidentiality and understands privacy.

• Understands data quality issues
