Purpose**
- To support environmental compliance for the Borden Mine.
- Ensure the Borden Mine meet all regulatory and environmental standards.
- To support the Borden Mine operations and ensure the site operates environmentally responsible.
Responsibilities Regulatory Compliance of the Borden Mine and implementation of permit conditions
- Ensure compliance with all permits and approvals held by Borden Mine.
- Assist with environmental permitting for projects and operations.
- Oversee monitoring programs for the Borden Mine, including air, water, dust, and waste.
- Review and interpret monitoring data to ensure compliance and provide recommendations for improvements or actions.
- Ensure required external and internal reporting is met and submitted promptly.
- Maintain good relationships with government agencies, represent the company in government inspections/investigations, and be available for emergency callouts.
- Assist with the planning, scheduling, and coordinating of required environmental emergency drills.
- Assist in maintaining a Spill Prevention and Contingency Plan.
- Assist with field sampling and monitoring when applicable.
- Support the management of environmental incidents by ensuring events are reported and investigated and that recommendations to avoid similar occurrences from happening are made and carried out.
- Assist in annual budget preparation, monthly budgeting, and forecasting.
Environmental Awareness and Field Supervision
- Support environmental training for all staff and contractors at Borden Mine.
- Maintain a good relationship with internal departments at Porcupine through open communication and department visibility in the workforce.
- Perform various environmental, workplace, and safety inspections at the Borden mine operations
- Supervise and instruct environmental field technicians/technologists.
- Supervise and instruct contractors, consultants, and summer students.
Training and Education
- B.Sc. in Environmental or other related Engineering field, Bachelor of Environmental Science, or Diploma in Environmental Technology
- 3-4 years in the mining industry or related experience with exposure to formal Environmental Management systems, compliance, and permitting issues.
- Must be able to take a practical approach to environmental management.
- 1-2 years leading environmental technicians, students, contractors, and consultants
- Effective communication and organization skills.
- Strong PC skills and experience with various field equipment.
- Ability to interact with internal staff and external agencies.
- Valid G driver’s license.
- Transport Canada advanced drone pilot certificate is an asset
- Competency in GIS is an asset.
- Familiarity with SiteScan, MonitorPro,,and other monitoring and reporting systems are assets.
