Pay Range (Annual):
$133,000.00 - $247,000.00
At Infinera, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. Your actual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. This role may be eligible for equity grants, discretionary bonuses, or commission payments. The amount of these incentives is based on the terms of the Company’s incentive plans, the Company’s financial performance, and/or individual employee job performance.

The Principal RF/EM Engineer will lead the development of bleeding-edge broadband circuits, ASIC packages, modules and systems. Key responsibilities include electromagnetic modeling, design and validation RF structures, IC package transitions and interconnects, including various materials and substrates. The responsibilities also include complete end to end channel simulations and eye diagram analysis. As part of a multi-disciplinary design team, you will be developing and optimizing 3D EM models, integrating and verifying proof of concepts and evaluation boards for the development of Nokia’s next generation products.
Responsibilities Include:
- Develop packages for high speed state-of-the-art ASICs. Tasks include substrate selection, detailed modeling of transitions and end-to-end ultra-broadband passive structures including PCB, modules and interconnect solutions.
- Lead conceptual work, design specifications, component specifications, selection and evaluation, definition of fabrication requirements, tolerance analysis, detailed design, prototyping, and verification.
- Provide guidelines for PCB design, stack-up, routing, via structures, tolerances. Perform post-layout analysis.
- Develop test fixtures and calibration kits for high speed measurements
- Execute design verification including broad band measurements up to 90GHz with a probe station.
- Continuously improve signal integrity and modeling techniques to increase correlation between models and measurements.
- Publish test reports and recommendations
Education and Experience:
- M.Sc./Ph.D. EE specialized in microwave design with a minimum of 5 years of experience in HFSS modeling and ADS. Experience with other tools including Matlab, etc. also desired.
- Demonstrated design experience of passive structures above 50GHz is a must, including characterization and correlation to models.
- Experience in telecom product development is strongly desired.
- Applied knowledge of required parameters to ensure accuracy of EM models and variability analysis at microwave frequencies.
- In-depth measurement experience using VNAs, de-embedding, AFR, calibration structures, probing techniques.
- Experience with Electro-optics and RF test equipment considered a plus.
- Knowledge of PCB, HDBU, mSAP fabrication techniques, fab & assembly design rules, product integration with mechanical components. Experience with other materials such as LTCC an asset.
- Good writing and communication skills.
- Good team player with strong attention to detail, organizational skills and demonstrated problem solving abilities.
