Freedom Quest is seeking passionate, dedicated Residential Child & Youth Workers to join our team in providing life-changing support to youth affected by substance use and other adversities. We have multiple positions available across various schedules to accommodate different availability and career goals.
Available Position Types:
- Full-Time Permanent (30-40 hours/week)
- Part-Time Permanent (15-24 hours/week)
- Casual/Relief (flexible scheduling)
- On-Call (as-needed basis; 24 hours/72 hour on-call shift)
Available Shifts:
- Weekday positions
- Weekend positions
- Daytime shifts
- Evening shifts
- Overnight shifts
- Mixed schedules available
About Freedom Quest
Freedom Quest provides free, community-based, client-centered, low-barrier, voluntary, and non-judgmental services to youth who are, or who are at risk of being, adversely affected by substance use in the West Kootenay Boundary Region. Our residential programs, "Eagle House" (Short-Term Stabilization) and "Freedom House" (Long-Term Specialized), provide 24/7 staffed homes where up to 4 young people can find safety, stability, and trauma-informed care.
What You'll Do
Building Meaningful Relationships
- Develop authentic, transparent relationships with youth while maintaining professional boundaries
- Provide physical and emotional availability for comfort and protection
- Model secure attachment behaviors and embrace spontaneity in interactions
- Transport youth to appointments and community outings
- Create opportunities for choice and say "yes" whenever possible
- Maintain unconditional positive regard while implementing boundaries and consequences
Ensuring Safety & Wellness
- Ensure the safety and well-being of each youth in your care
- Meet physical needs including hygiene assistance, meal preparation, and medication administration
- Maintain clean, organized living environments and perform minor household repairs
- Provide first aid as needed and alert supervisors to any hazards
Supporting Individual Care Plans
- Deliver trauma-informed care aligned with each youth's individualized Care Plan
- Participate in Care Circle meetings, assessments, and program planning
- Provide emotional support and crisis intervention, including non-violent physical interventions when appropriate
- Use evidence-based approaches like Motivational Interviewing
- Strengthen youth skills through culturally appropriate daily routines and activities
Community & Recreation Engagement
- Plan and participate in recreation activities from low-risk (bowling, shopping) to higher-risk (camping, canoeing)
- Support community inclusion and maintain positive community relationships
- Collaborate with community partners, families, and service providers
- Build relationships with schools, healthcare providers, and other youth-serving organizations
Professional Development & Administration
- Complete strength-based documentation and progress reports
- Attend required meetings, trainings, and supervision (up to 5 hours/month)
- Maintain CARF accreditation standards
- Engage in ongoing professional development and learning
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Child & Youth Care, Social Work, or related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience (2 years combined minimum)
- Current First Aid and CPR Certification
- MCFD Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check)
- Valid FoodSafe Certification
- Valid Class V BC Driver's License (Class IV preferred)
- Clean Driver's Abstract and Driver Factor Report under 1.5
- Reliable vehicle
Preferred Qualifications (Assets)
- Training in behavioral modification, children under 12 with support needs, attachment-based parenting, and trauma-informed practice
- Two years residential setting experience
- Experience with client-centered, strengths-based, harm-reduction approaches
- Experience working with diverse worldviews
- Valid ASIST Certification
