Your Opportunity:

This year-round position with the Stollery Surge Capacity Inpatient Float Pool will be used to support the seasonal Stollery Surge Unit and provide year-round support to the Stollery Inpatient Units including medicine, cardiology, hematology, oncology, and surgery. The Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton is a full-service pediatric hospital and centre for complex pediatric care and research. It is the only specialized healthcare facility for infants, children and youth in central and northern Alberta and has among the highest inpatient volumes of any children’s hospital in Canada. As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse in pediatrics provides leadership in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for the mentioned populations under both, University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) and Stollery Children’s Hospital, policies, and procedures. The Registered Nurse practices to full scope as defined by the College & Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). This position in the Stollery Inpatient Surge Float Pool position works with Pediatric Inpatient Programs. Employees will be given the opportunities for professional growth, which include participation in unit-based safety/education sessions, senior skill certifications, unit quality councils, as well as broader AHS initiatives. Position incumbents will support the Stollery Surge capacity response and inpatient relief, inclusive of Stollery surge capacity beds and inpatient units (4C, 4D, 4E3, 4E4, 5G4).

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program.

Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Additional Required Qualifications:

Successfully pass the Stollery PEARS course (Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization Course), completed in orientation. Successfully pass the Stollery Medication Administration exam (pass 90%). Exceptional interpersonal communication skills. Excellent written and verbal communication. Demonstrated initiative, accountability, problem-solving, organizational skills, and effective time management. Strong decision-making, assessment, and critical thinking skills. Ability to adapt and work within a fast-paced, and time-sensitive environment with competing responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with children with tracheostomies, peritoneal dialysis, and medically fragile patient populations is considered an asset. Connect Care training and experience are considered an asset. Minimum of 2 years of acute pediatric experience as an RN within the last 5 years.
