Housed in the Riddell Library and Learning Centre, the University Library is an integral part of the MRU experience. The services, facilities, programming and expertise available in the Library support innovative teaching, learning, and scholarship across campus. The Library includes the Archives and Special Collections, and specialized and technology-enriched teaching and learning spaces, including information literacy classrooms, a Maker Studio, audio production rooms, and a range of visualization, simulation, and immersive spaces.

About the Role
We're seeking a Team Lead, Information Systems for a 9-month term to lead the effective operation and coordination of the Library's information systems. In this pivotal role, you'll oversee the operations of the Information Systems helpdesk services, manage dynamic Immersion Studio projects, and ensure the seamless delivery of daily technology support.
Working hand-in-hand with the Director, Library Technology, you'll provide vital leadership and expertise, empowering our team to deliver exceptional service to all Library users. Your expertise in user experience and responsive design will be crucial in shaping various digital projects, making technology accessible and engaging for everyone.
This is a Limited Term position, ending May 29,2026

Responsibilities
INFORMATION SYSTEMS OVERSIGHT

Facilitate and ensure daily team meetings are conducted, fostering an environment of constructive feedback, peer support, and collaborative problem-solving.

Oversee the daily operations of the IS Help Desk, including proper ticket prioritization, ticket assignment, and timely resolution of issues.

Coordinates Immersion Studio requests, encompassing developer assignment, project timeline adherence, and maximizing the utilization of in-room technology.

Act as a primary liaison and communicate effectively with key library stakeholders, including staff, faculty, university administration, and students, to share information and gain a comprehensive understanding of their technology needs.

Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and informal feedback to Information Systems staff, supporting their professional development and ensuring their learning needs are met.

Coordinate work planning, project assignment, and project management activities for Information Systems staff, ensuring efficient resource allocation and timely project delivery.

Contribute to the formal performance appraisal process for team members, offering insights and feedback on individual performance and growth.
DESIGN & DEVELOP USER INTERFACES
- Resolves user pain points through great design utilizing best practices, university standards and guidelines and stakeholder discussions
- Creates wireframes and interactive prototypes which are turned into polished interfaces for users to interact with
- Improves the quality of the existing UI & develop new user-facing features
- Utilizes modern web development tools & frameworks such as Bootstrap/Angular/ JQuery
- Integrates development with library delivery mechanisms (Springshare, Primo, AtoM, OJS, Pandora’s Box)
- Optimizes applications for maximum speed & scalability
- Debugs, tests, and maintains Library user interfaces
TECHNICAL SUPPORT FOR LIBRARY TECHNOLOGIES
- Supports hardware and software issues, escalating as needed
- Responds to helpdesk tickets from Library employees on problems they are encountering
- Participates in daily information systems team stand-up meetings and offers insights/expertise to designing user interfaces
- Provides consultation, training, and support for MRU staff and faculty related to design and development of digital experiences.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in an academic library environment, including direct, hands-on support of library systems and technology used by students

Three to four year bachelor degree in a relevant field or equivalent, for example:
- A bachelor degree in media arts or new media production and design, or
- A combination of education and experience such as a diploma and one to two years of experience with media, design and visualization technology

Minimum 3 years of experience in modern web development languages & frameworks (such as Bootstrap/Angular/JQuery)

Demonstrated success in leading technology initiatives, empowering others through training, illustrating technology's value in supporting faculty instruction, and driving positive change.

Proficient use of Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, Illustrator, Photoshop, Audition) and Figma
-
Experience and knowledge in design best practices related to graphic design (for digital and print), photo editing, motion graphics, video and audio production

Awareness of academic processes and undergraduate student needs, as well as a broad understanding in their area of expertise
Salary: $ 82,916- $ 104,856 per annum
