About the role
WCLC is currently looking for a results driven HR Specialist to join our Human Resources team for a one year term. Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the HR Specialist will be responsible for various administrative functions such as benefits and pension administration, disability management, and facilitating sub contractor engagements. They will support cyclical HR processes including year-end activities for budgeting and reporting as well as working with HR Business Partners on recruitment and employee relations.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Provide administrative support for the HR department including generating reports, filing and maintaining employee records, both physical and electronic
- Act as first point of contact for employee benefits including on-boarding, off-boarding and escalation of inquiries including liaising between benefit provider and employee
- Provide guidance and understanding of WCLC Pension Plan to both current and former employees related to pension enrollment and off-boarding processes
- Primary contact for WCLC disability management program by acting in a lead role for both short- and long-term disability claims, Workers Compensation Board claims and administering return to work programs while acting as liaison between employee and benefits provider
- Conduct research and analysis on HR initiatives as well as delivering and reporting metrics to support the HR function
- Support the Payroll Specialist on bi-weekly basis as back-up to the payroll function
- Facilitate sub-contractor engagements with vendors and lines of business
- Support the People & Culture teams with purchase order creation and invoicing
- Manage service award programs and track employee recognition
Qualifications and Competencies
- Post-secondary education in Human Resource Management combined with 2 years of experience in a relevant HR role
- Experience with disability management and benefits program administration
- Experience working with company pension plans with a focus on understanding the processes and administrative functions is preferred
- Proven ability to foster and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts
- Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail and responsibility to meet deadlines with strong analytical abilities
- Proficiency in MS Office and HRIS systems
- Strong sense of accountability and work ethic with a desire to learn
