About the role:
As an Personal Lines Underwriter, you'll provide critical risk management analysis and support for both new business and existing client portfolios. You'll ensure all submissions strictly adhere to carrier underwriting guidelines and regulatory compliance, empowering brokers to accurately place risks. This role is key to maintaining robust client and partner relationships.

What you’ll be doing:
Administrating New Business:

  • Receive report requests from assigned brokers for confirmation of new business underwriting.
  • Review, identify, and advise associate brokers of potential concerns regarding pertinent information required for the successful placement of the policy with a specific carrier.
  • Ensure specific volume requirements/commitments set by the company are met.
  • Complete auditing reports regarding broker compliance monthly.
  • Assist brokers with the correct marketing of risks and cooperatively help them to write new business.
  • Ensure that only risks which meet the appetite and customer profile of our carriers target markets are placed.
  • Assist CSRs on house portfolio servicing (i.e. difficult requests, changes which prompt potential 'red flag' situations).
  • Help assigned associate brokers with re-marketing of risks where necessary, and/or retention of accounts where possible.
  • Offer one-on-one training for new CSR's requesting assistance on TAM/Application completion, company workflows, etc.
  • Advise management of any immediate hazards, concerns or issues pertaining to submissions, current workflows, or associate brokers.

Reporting:

  • Complete requested reporting for all assigned brokers (i.e. Auto Plus, MVR, HITS, etc.).
  • Review requested reports to determine company risk appetite and determine if it meets the quality guidelines of both the respective carrier and My Insurance Broker.
  • Advise associate broker of any issues, concerns, or supporting documentation which would be required to be provided with new business application.
  • If the policy does not meet the companies’ standards, advise if an alternative rating, carrier, or market is available.
  • Forward all necessary reports to the broker to complete their submission or deny the risk.

Processing/Review:

  • Responsible for reviewing all new business submissions,
  • Audit applications to ensure that:
  • they are completed per RIBO, MIB, and carrier standards
  • all supporting documents are provided (i.e. OPCF 28a, Discount Forms, LOE's)
  • all referral points have been abided by the broker prior to submission
  • the completed applications are forwarded to designated CSR team for processing
  • Provide up-to-dates figure on new business premium volumes per carrier on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintain a fair distribution and profitability of risk amongst carrier partners.

Relationship Maintenance:

  • Ensure that we maintain good relationships with all past, present or potential clients.
  • Always provide and maintain a professional standard of conduct while promoting a positive image of the brokerage.

What we need you to bring:

  • Minimum College or University level Degree/Undergraduates Degree or comparable experience.
  • Minimum 1 - 3 years of successful underwriting experience in a general insurance brokerage (preferred).
  • R.I.B.O (Level I) License or open to getting it.
  • Proficient with insurance policy systems as well as MS Office, specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience working with company portals and Broker Management System (EPIC) is an asset.
  • CIP or CAIB Certification or working towards its completion.
