About the role

The Manager, Ice District Security & Operations is responsible for the overall leadership and advancement of security operations throughout the Ice District, ensuring the safety of all patrons, tenants, and properties. This role involves close collaboration with Ice District stakeholders to assess and address their security and life safety needs, while also identifying cost-saving measures and exploring new revenue opportunities.

Core Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead the expansion of ICE District Security (IDS) services across the entire district to enhance safety and operational coverage.
  • Foster strong collaboration with third-party security contractors engaged by tenants and landlords, ensuring a consistent and proactive exchange of information to maintain the highest safety standards.
  • Provide strategic leadership for IDS throughout the ICE District, including integrated security operations for Rogers Place and other district tenants.
  • Partner with Ice District tenants to assess and meet their security and life safety needs, ensuring updated protocols are in place and fully compliant with all relevant regulations.
  • Develop and implement IDS-specific policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs), including comprehensive emergency response plans.
  • In partnership with the Manager, Security, Systems & Event Command and the Manager, Fan Experience & Security, oversee the recruitment, supervision, training, and performance of Control Room Operators and Security Agents, providing clear direction and leadership.
  • Manage access control, CCTV, radio communications, intrusion detection systems, and related technologies across the district, in conjunction with the Manager, Security, Systems & Event Command.
  • Monitor and track budget expenditures, forecast future costs, and identify opportunities for cost-saving measures, operational efficiencies, and new revenue streams.
  • Provide senior leadership with formal monthly updates on financials, staffing, customer engagement, and current or upcoming IDS initiatives.
  • Maintain strong relationships with all emergency services (EPS, Fire, Sheriffs, EMS, etc.) and actively participate in health and safety committees within the greater Downtown Edmonton area.
  • Review security reports, logs, and operational checklists regularly to shift the approach from reactive to proactive security.
  • Lead and coordinate security deployments for events in Fan Park and Plaza areas, ensuring minimal disruption to tenant operations.
  • Serve as Event Commander as required during large-scale events.
  • Collaborate with the Occupational Health and Safety Officer to ensure the district’s Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) program remains compliant.
  • Work closely with the Property Management team to support and enforce compliance with fire prevention and emergency preparedness protocols

Education, Experience and Skills:

  • College diploma in a related field, with 5–7 years of security management experience in large-scale commercial environments.
  • Proven expertise in developing and maintaining security operations, emergency response protocols, fire prevention strategies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Valid Alberta Security License.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and time management skills.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to navigate all levels of an organization with transparency and diplomacy.
  • Adaptable and culturally aware, with the ability to respond appropriately across diverse social contexts.
  • Confident in managing emergency situations to ensure personal safety and property protection.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable federal, provincial, and municipal safety, fire, and health regulations.
  • Skilled in threat and hazard identification, risk assessment, and the implementation of effective mitigation strategies in real estate and property management environments.
  • Experienced in performance management, tactical planning, and major event operations.
  • Familiarity with Incident Command System (ICS), ABI MasterMind, and other scheduling platforms is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of CCURE, Victor, Genetec, and Omnigo systems is considered an asset.
  • Experience in customer account management and retention is also considered beneficial.
