About the role
Summary of Duties
The Senior Technologist will be responsible for providing technical, scientific, educational and supportive service to both internal and external users. In collaboration with management and other senior technologists the Senior Technologist will also be responsible for the following:
Contributing to departmental processes such as, performance appraisals, interviews, and staff scheduling. Organizing workflow and delegating responsibilities as required. Communicating with internal/external clients. Generating daily, weekly and monthly reports. Maintaining communication with all levels of laboratory staff including medical, technical staff and management regarding technical issues as applicable. Supporting and assisting staff activities to enhance safe practice and quality improvement in the lab. Providing leadership through mentorship and sharing of expertise.
Qualifications/Skills
- Current CMLTO registration as a General Medical Laboratory Technologist essential
- ART certification or BSC preferred
- Five (5) years recent Clinical Chemistry experience in a hospital setting required
- Demonstrated ability with laboratory automation required
- Demonstrated proficiency with LIS and middleware
- Demonstrated ability in operating and troubleshooting highly complex analysers and sound knowledge of relevant analytical techniques
- Must have strong knowledge of QC Westgard rules and ability to use QC to troubleshoot testing issues
- Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills with the ability to foster and support team environment
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally with individuals at all levels
- Knowledge of adult education principles
- Knowledge of continuous quality improvement and total quality management techniques required
- Demonstrated initiative, effective problem solving, conflict resolution skills, critical thinking and decision making practices
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Demonstrated ability to write standard operating procedures
- Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
