About the role

DUTIES:

  • Stocks and replaces cylinders on patient wards, critical care areas and the operating rooms
  • Cleans, processes, assembles and tests reusable respiratory equipment
  • Organizes a system of inventory control to maintain adequate quantities of required supplies
  • Performs minor repairs of respiratory related equipment
  • Prepares and tests anaesthetic gas machines and anaesthesia related equipment
  • Handles storage of medical and specialty gases
  • Prepares and tests critical care ventilators
  • Assists with related departmental projects and initiatives
  • Ensures safety standards and regulations are maintained

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current enrolment in a Respiratory Therapy Program required
  • Related experience in Respiratory Therapy would be an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand basic medical terminology, concepts of sterility and aseptic technique
  • Ability to understand and problem solve issues related to respiratory equipment and their safe usage
  • Experience with respiratory equipment, mechanical ventilators, medical and specialty gases (This position also involves exposure to various gases and soiled equipment)
  • Demonstrated excellent customer-focused approach to patients and staff
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member
  • Must be physically able to perform duties requiring heavy exertion (lifting, pushing and pulling)
  • Previous related experience an asset
  • Basic Life Support certification is an asset
  • Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the mission and values of St. Michael's Hospital
  • Demonstrated excellent attendance record
