About the Role
The Educational Technologist is a certified teacher who enhances instructional effectiveness by equipping staff with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to integrate educational technology into their practice. Through coaching, direct instruction, and the development of targeted learning supports, the Educational Technologist empowers instructional staff to use digital tools in ways that enrich instruction, increase student engagement, and improve learning outcomes.
Grounded in Calgary Academy’s four pillars (Academics, Independent Habits and Transferable Skills, Self-advocacy, and Self-confidence), this role positions technology as a catalyst for student growth, cultivating a future-ready teaching environment rooted in innovation and instructional excellence. Reporting to the Director of Technology for Learning, the Educational Technologist plays a key role in executing Calgary Academy’s Strategic Plan and advancing the Technology for Learning three-year rolling plan. This includes leading transformational work in assistive technology, emerging innovations like AI, and the effective, inclusive deployment of learning technology resources across the school.
The successful candidate would begin on August 18, 2025 and be hired on a Full-Time Teaching contract, assigned to the Technology for Learning team in the role of Educational Technologist. This position follows the school’s operational calendar and is compensated on the Teacher Salary Grid.
A valid Alberta Teaching Certificate (or Interim Certificate) and a clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector screening are required.
Highlight of Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Leadership in Educational Technology:
- Empower instructional staff through modeling and coaching best practices in technology integration.
- Design and deliver professional learning opportunities with a focus on assistive technologies and emerging tools and technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning.
- Collaborate with the Teaching Excellence Team and Learning and Development Lead to align technology support with Calgary Academy’s Learning Development Structure.
- Develop and curate resources that complement and enhance the Teaching Excellence framework.
- Lead the implementation of inclusive and accessible technologies that support diverse learning needs.
- Co-lead the Technology for Learning Advisory Committee (formerly Instructional Technology Steering Committee), fostering a collaborative approach to instructional innovation.
- Research and evaluate new and emerging technologies in partnership with industry experts and vendors.
- Support the selection, implementation, and rollout of a Learning Management System (LMS).
Departmental Evolution and Growth:
- Assist in the development and implementation of the rolling three-year department plan.
- Develop capacity in the Technology for Learning team to support instructional technology issues.
- Support documentation of processes, and analysis of program impact.
- Assisting in the management of the helpdesk function with particular emphasis as a subject matter expert (SME) on teaching and learning tools.
- Supporting the development of student leadership and engagement programs related to technology.

- Certified Alberta Teacher in good standing, with at least five years of classroom teaching experience.
- Experience in an Educational Technologist role or similar is a strong asset.
- Educational Technology Expertise: Proficient in a wide range of digital tools and platforms, including assistive technology, AI for learning, learning management systems, and Microsoft, Apple, and Google learning tools.
- Instructional Design & Pedagogy: Strong foundation in effective teaching strategies, with an emphasis on leveraging technology to support diverse and neurodiverse learners.
