About the role
Are you an accomplished Solid Waste Engineer seeking an exciting new challenge? R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited (Burnside) invites you to join our innovative solid waste management team, preferably based in Pickering, however we are ready to consider our other offices for the right candidate. You will play a pivotal role in providing technical leadership and project management for the planning, design, and monitoring of diverse waste management systems, spanning landfills, recycling depots, and transfer stations as well as the municipal approval process for land development projects. Your expertise will extend to shaping waste management master plans, conducting Environmental Assessments, and devising effective diversion and disposal strategies.
The Role Your responsibilities as a Senior Solid Waste Engineer will encompass, but not be limited to:
- Client and Business Development: Spearhead client and business development initiatives to drive growth.
- Team Leadership: Lead proposal and project production teams, offering guidance and mentorship to junior staff and coordinating work with other disciplines as a Project Manager.
- Communication Expertise: Engage effectively with clients, regulatory agencies, Indigenous communities, and stakeholders.
- Operational Training: Provide in-person and virtual presentations to clients and their staff, relevant to their regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Adaptive Responsibilities: Undertake additional duties as required to ensure project success.
Professional Knowledge And Qualifications We are actively seeking candidates with the following qualifications:
- Educational Background: Hold an Environmental Engineering or Civil Engineering degree.
- Extensive Experience: Bring your wealth of experience in solid waste engineering consulting or an equivalent field.
- Professional Membership: Maintain membership, in good standing, with Professional Engineers Ontario.
- Communication Skills: Exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Project Management Prowess: Showcase the ability to work concurrently on several projects, consistently delivering on-time and on-budget results to clients. Showcase your strong project management, client management, and business development aptitude.
- Proven Leadership: Demonstrate your success in leading and building high-performing teams.
- Flexibility: Possess the ability and willingness to travel between Burnside offices and occasionally to remote client sites.
Assets (but not required): The following will be considered advantageous:
- Consultation Proficiency: Demonstrate familiarity and comfort with regulatory agency, Indigenous, and stakeholder consultation.
- Legislative Knowledge: Possess knowledge of relevant Acts and Regulations in Ontario and Manitoba.
- Civil Engineering Expertise: Showcase experience in earth moving/grading, site servicing, surface water systems, sewers and leachate treatment, pavement, and structures.
- Technical Understanding: Illustrate an understanding of contaminant hydrogeology.
- Cost Modeling Skills: Bring experience in cost modeling and estimating.
