The Digital Design and Delivery (DDD) division within the Ministry of Technology and Innovation (TI) leads the development of the next generation of digital public services for the GoA. DDD partners with other departments to deliver products, platforms and services that are better, faster and easier, through modern user-centered agile processes. DDD offers potential candidates a unique opportunity to work on meaningful challenges that transform government and positively impact Albertans.

The Software Delivery branch within DDD supports and enables Product and Platforms teams by providing technical team members, and leads the excellence of practices in architecture, CloudOps, DevOps, software development, and QA. This branch also provides access to common capabilities, like cloud services, reusable components, tooling and patterns, and includes application maintenance services.

Role Responsibilities

The Software Delivery branch is looking for a Business Analyst. This position reports to the Manager of Application Services.

The responsibilities of this role includes:

  • Supporting day to day business operations and continual maintenance of the system as well as technical support user experts.

  • Reviewing and investigating business practices and/or legislation related to the system and its functionality.

  • Researching business and system problem situations and identifying core issues and recommending solutions.

  • Participating in design sessions, preparing and maintaining business requirements/specifications, performing functional, and integrated user testing.

  • Preparing formal test scripts, test plans and test scenarios in addition to defining resources requirements and schedules for all changes, enhancements or related systems.

  • Providing assistance to the planning, research, and design of system transactions, functionality, report/document formats and system interfaces.

  • Facilitating effective communication with Ministry training coordinators on all Ministry initiatives that may impact business processes.

  • Assisting in monitoring system performance, collecting audit related documentation and coordiationion of the disater recovery exersise to ensure that daily on-line activities are efficiently carried out.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • University degree in a related field, such as Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field plus a minimum of two (2) years related experience.
  • Experience creating and maintaining business and technical documentation.
  • Excellent stakeholder and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to understand and communicate technical principles at a conceptual level.

Equivalencies:

  • A related two-year diploma and a minimum of four (4) years of related experience; or
  • A related one-year certificate and a minimum of five (5) years of related experience; or
  • A minimum of six (6) years of related experience.

Assets:

  • Experience delivering user-centered support services.
  • Aptitude for understanding and communicating technical principles at a conceptual level.
  • Experience working in complex environments with shared data and abundant data interdependencies.
  • Experience with the systems used in Alberta Energy and Minerals.

Hours of Work: 7.25 hours daily / 36.25 weekly – Monday to Friday

Location: Remote across Alberta

This position is eligible for remote work. You must reside in Alberta to work remotely.
