Nisga'a School District No. 92 Nisga'a School District No. 92 invites applications for the position of Teaching Vice-Principal for Nisga'a School District. Reporting directly to the Director of Instruction, Learning & Innovation. This is a full-time administrative position that includes itinerant teaching duties in the area of Inclusive Education starting August 1, 2025.

Located in the Nass Valley in Northwestern British Columbia, the Nisga'a School District encompasses the traditional treaty territory of the Nisga'a Nation. Role Overview

  • Support day-to-day school operations, including scheduling, supervision, and the implementation of school-wide initiatives.
  • Provide instructional leadership by guiding curriculum implementation, effective teaching strategies, and assessment practices to enhance student achievement and teacher development.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment that supports the social- emotional and academic needs of all students.
  • Mentor and support teaching staff through coaching, collaborative planning, and professional development, with a focus on inclusive education and differentiated instruction.
  • Promote positive student behavior through restorative practices, proactive behavior support, and alignment with school and district policies.
  • Deliver itinerant resource support across multiple schools, including the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and targeted interventions.
  • Use data to inform instruction, collaborating with educators to analyze student needs and implement responsive strategies.
  • Engage meaningfully with Nisga'a communities, incorporating Indigenous perspectives into pedagogy and building strong relationships with families and Elders.
  • Lead and contribute to professional learning initiatives across the district, particularly in inclusive education, literacy, numeracy, and Indigenous ways of knowing.
  • Collaborate with school teams, district staff, and external partners to support student success and ensure effective communication and documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligibility to obtain one).
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Master's degree (or current enrollment in a recognized program) in Educational Leadership, Administration, Curriculum, Special Education, or a related field.
  • Recent and successful experience in a teaching or school-based leadership role.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly between the four schools in the Nisga'a School District.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable vehicle are required.
  • Mileage reimbursement is provided in accordance with district policy.

Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following personal and professional skills and abilities:

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to equity, diversity, and reconciliation, integrating Nisga'a and other Indigenous perspectives into their practice in meaningful and respectful ways.
  • Adapt instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners, including those with IEPs, using inclusive, flexible, and responsive teaching strategies.
  • Use assessment tools and data effectively, including Level B assessments, to inform instruction and support student growth through cycles of improvement.
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning and apply new strategies to enhance student success and instructional practice.
  • Build strong, respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community partners, fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally, demonstrating excellent interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Bring a trauma-informed and socially aware lens to their work, supporting student well-being and emotional development.
  • Support school and district goals through a positive, team-oriented approach and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Use technology confidently to support instruction, assessment, communication, and reporting.
  • Have experience working in rural and/or Indigenous communities and understand the unique strengths and challenges of these contexts.
